I have tried searching for a totally noob guide on basic sub testing. I have a Velodyne DLS-3750, and I want to buy that "SPL meter" and get a "Test disc" to see if it is working properly. I am sure I can go to radio shack and buy one of those meters. I was wondering where I can go to download a free Test CD/DVD...hopefully one that is straight forward and easy to use.
Once I obtain that Test disc and SPL meter...what do I do from there? Sorry for this absolute Newbie question, but it is hard to get the most basic info....the technical stuff once out of this noob phase is easier to obtain. Thanks!

I think this is a highly recommended test CD:

You can rent the Avia II DVD at Blockbuster or NetFlix. This is a basic tutorial and test tones package. Also helps you set your TV properly. You can also buy it.

That's awesome... I can't believe you can rent that!

Ok, I read that RealTraps page and I will record the levels off the SPL meter...but is the goal to move the sub in different areas until you find the highest levles across the spectrum? I am sure others may try to add acoustic traps to balance out the levels.
Go to this thread and you will find out what you want to know about HT and sub setup and calibration: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=824554.

I downloaded that Realtraps test tone cd yesterday and used it with an SPL meter to take the responses of my sub. Its setup kind of difficult because being in 1hz increments as a continuous track for 10hz levels per track. So that when some of the tones change you dont even realize it. Especially in the 10-20hz range but the higher the frequency it gets a little more noticable. The SPL meter will stay the same as well if there is no db increase/decrease. So by the time you realize where you are on the display timer the tone has changed and your now lost. It would be better if every increase was its own track alot easier to follow. Who wants to pause the cd every 10sec to make sure they keep theyre place and are charting the correct responses??? Is there anything else out there thats a little more dummy proof???
