I need a new sub for my current setup. I have a Sharp 52' LCD TV, Yamaha 663 receiver, Samsung BD-P1500, Def Tech Studio Monitor 350s for front L/R, Pro Center 1000, and Pro Monitor 800s as surrounds. I have my outdated HTIB yamaha 100W 6" sub and know I need a new one. I just finished upgrading the speakers and it sounds great but I know I am missing that deep base ( I think the yammy sub only goes to ~60Hz).

The room is 20x20 with 3 sides and the fourth opens into the dining room with basically no wall. I sit about 10' from the TV.

I live in a house and can go as loud as I want. Listening habits are 99% home theater and like good base but I don't need something that is earth-shattering.

Price should be around 1K and I am looking to make the purchase in the next week or two.

I was thinking of the Hsu VTF 3.3 but am open to other suggestions. From what I read this seems like a good fit. The sub just needs to fit my system now and I will be buying a completely new crazy good system in 4 years when I make the big bucks so the sub doesn't have to have a great reserve of power.

All help appreciated.

Not sure if size is much of an issue but I would look at the new Elemental Designs A5-350... I just got the new A3-300 and that is also a very good choice.

Thanks for the quick reply. Size and aesthetics are no issue. Do you think the A5-350 would be too much. I am not sure if I would ever use the full 500W and the A3-300 goes to 18 Hz just like the A5.

The OP is looking for 1K subs.

I would recommend a Epik Sentinel.

I would also recommend taking a look at the new Epik line also. The Sentinel sounds like a good suggestion for your room.

If size and esthetics don't matter much, the SVS PC12 Plus might be a good choice at $949. Also they seem to have a "B" stock right now for $100 less.
