Looking forward to this one Jim Hef 03-30-09, 10:52 AM Will probably be available in the future as are many of her albums, but not announced yet. The vinyl album is available for pre-order, so let's hope the SACD will come along shortly. Her music sounds terrific on SACD. The vinyl album is available for pre-order, so let's hope the SACD will come along shortly. Her music sounds terrific on SACD. Call me weird, but I also hope for a DVD-A as well. Jim Hef 03-30-09, 02:57 PM I have her music on both SACD and DVD-Audio. Hopefully one or the other will be available! Ovation 03-30-09, 04:01 PM I wouldn't count on it. There have been a number of artists who've had more than one SACD and/or DVD-A release whose most recent efforts have been limited to standard CD as the market for non-classical SACD (and DVD-A in general) has wound down. Jim Hef 03-30-09, 05:02 PM That would be unfortunate...not just for this title, but for rock/pop/jazz music in general! Ovation 03-30-09, 05:55 PM After nearly 5 years of collecting MCH hi-res discs (and almost 5 more years of their existence), I'm afraid that, apart from classical and some jazz (though even that seems on the decline), DVD-A/SACD is not a growth industry. There are many nice titles already out on those formats (enough to make me happy to have invested in the playback equipment for them) but I got in when it was peaking--I'm not entirely sure I would jump in now, frankly, if classical was not part of my listening habits. thehun 03-31-09, 05:48 PM I found her MCH mixes to be a mixed bag, the funny thing is all of her albums are mixed by the same guy Al Schmitt [MCH, stereo]yet it's like they're all from a different mixer. Strange. dave1216 04-05-09, 02:08 PM Just got the album. Would guess the chance of an SACD release as 0.001%. I found the album at first listen to be too laid back and rather boring. Nice background music. Not as good as her best albums. For those looking for multi-channel of this music...fear not..a DVD/Bluray of a recent concert in Rio containing this music is scheduled for release shortly. rdgrimes 04-05-09, 02:44 PM the market for non-classical SACD (and DVD-A in general) has wound down. Perhaps a bad choice of words, but the market has actually grown. Look at some SACDs selling used for as much as $75-100, that's not a sign of a shrinking market. What has "wound down" is the interest in releasing SACD by the studios, due to the lower cost/profit ratio. Sony killed it, not the lack of a market. With the tiny percentage of SACD releases in comparison to CD releases, along with the limited pressings (many have had an initial run that will not be repeated--same is true of DVD-A), I consider it far more plausible that such prices merely reflect the desire of the small number of collectors of the format to acquire pressings that are already out of print. I agree that the reluctance of labels to jump "whole hog" onto one or the other of these formats has been detrimental, but the reality is, not that many people care--either for the hi-res aspect or the MCH. Most people, if they want MCH audio, simply engage a DSP setting on their receivers and are happy with that. The market was never all that large. |
