need some opinions...

doing a new install... i don't have a very long run (maybe 6 feet) from the rack to the display... since it's open behind that wall (stairway into unfinished basement), i can easily get a nice clean install...

do you think that using hdmi wall plates in this case would be an issue? i don't "have" to use them, i could also use those recessed plates that monoprice sells and not break the run, but the hdmi plates would be "cleaner"...

my usual response to stuff like this is "try it" (cheap enough to order the plates and if they don't work, pull them out and use the recessed ones), but i wanted to get some opinions on what people might think the percentage of this working issue free is... since it's a pretty short run (figure 3 feet from avr to wall plate, 6 feet behind wall, and then 3 feet from wall plate to display), i'm reasonably confident it will work, but sometimes my confidence can be misplaced... :)

thanks.

For a run that short, I probably would not bother putting the cable in the wall. Unless of course you plan to use this position for the equipment for a looong period of time. In that case, I would add a conduit or some other form of tubing to allow additional future cabling.

As for the wall plates, they should work fine with a short run.

You may find that the more connections you have with HDMI cables, the more problems you face with the connectors. The connectors do not stand-up to much abuse and twisting or turning without loosening or damage.

trust me... if it wasn't ridiculously easy (i.e. it really is open in the back, i don't have to fish anything), i wouldn't bother putting in the wall... :)

plus this is in the middle room of a "shotgun" house, so you gotta walk past it all the time... everything in my main room upstairs runs along the floor, because i'm too darn lazy to mess with trying to run stuff "pretty"... :o

yea, i'm aware of the multiple connections issues, which is why i'm hesitant about even trying it... i may just use the recessed ones...

i might even just bag the hdmi for now and go with component... no 1080p sources in this setup anyway, and none planned... of course, you know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men... ;)

thanks for the input...

ps: nice theater, btw... :)
