I have one of my computers connected to my new TV (Samsung LN40A650) via HDMI (HDMI to HDMI). When I turn my TV off and back on, I lose my audio on my computer. At first you would think it might be the computer, but my two previous TV's did not have this problem. The only way to fix it for the moment is log off the computer or restart, but log off is quicker and it works, or unplug the HDMI cable from the tv and plug it back in. I called Samsung and they have no idea, and think something is wrong with the TV and are asking me to send it in for repairs. I think it just by design, and there is nothing they can fix. So why is this happening, and is there something I can do on my computer to get my audio back without logging off or reaching behind my TV to reinsert the HDMI cable? Anyone understand how HDMI works in a situation like this, I mean how do you diagonse a issue like this?

I don't have a solution for your problem but I suggest that you NOT unplug the HDMI cable and reinsert it each time. You will have problems with the HDMI input on the TV in a short time doing this.

Thanks for the advice, I have only done that once, to see if it would remedy the problem and I was surprised that it did. I usually just log off as it's easier than getting up and moving the TV to reinsert it.

Good news though, I found a guy with a similar problem, and he was able to fix his, but I can't find him in the forum where I was reading about it. Here is a link to his topic if that helps. It was a lso a Samsung TV, just not sure what model.

His last post:
Well I could have guessed how helpful SAMSUNG would be! Really not at all.

The problem did miraculously resolve itself. I believe it to have been a timing problem between video and audio. I relaxed the timing threshhold (service menu) from 8 to 20 which immediately improved connectivity between TV and PC (I could bring the audio back up without restarting the PC. Then I changed the screen refresh rate from 60 to 50Hz.
Now audio starts immediately once I turn on the TV.

IF I can help YOU with audio on HDMI let me know! & plenty of other issues aswel. (I know how much of a pain it can be - now)
