I am looking for a subwoofer to fill a basement home theater for my brother in law. He has about a 3000 cu.ft theater in his basement with HSU HB-1 fronts and surrounds, Onkyo 806, etc. He wants a single moveable by one person, sub package with in room response to low teens and it is about 70ht/30music. He wants to move some air for movies but retain decent quality for music. He has a decent budget, but I am stuck with what to recommend for him. My short list:
PB-13Ultra
Submersive
Conquest
JTR Captivator- he has an old Crown Microtech2400
A7-450
Open to suggestions! Thanks.

You seem to have listed just about all the big boys out there, but the largest ones, the Conquest, the JTR, and the A7, may be hard to move by one person. Even the PB13 is 155lbs. Does this need to be moved frequently?
I would have to assume that the JTR would give the greatest output in the low teens of all of them.

Moved only to place it right, so maybe a few sub moves are in order:)

thebuckaman, any particular reason it needs to be a single subwoofer? Two medium sized subwoofers will be easier to move around, and should not be difficult to set up (especially if co-located)...
HSU for main channels, but not even consider HSU for the sub channels? Somehow that seems odd, even with the single (monster) sub requirement.

I guess I didn't think of the co-located option Pete.

Well, given the MicroTech2400 availability, two DIY sealed boxes of 5 cuft each, loaded with a single Maelstrom 18" driver each and a Behringer FB1124 for eQ, figure on output into the low teens for less than $1k (you build the boxes of course-very easy sealed enclosures and could be fairly light if built correctly) You might even consider a Velodyne SMS-1 instead of the FB1124....either way you'd have one scary sub system.

I agree with mayhem, but it would be hard to do for under $1k. The maelstroms are around $400 each? The feedback destroyer is $100. Building materials would be around $100 minimum and you still need an amp.
Would be a great system but you would have to build.

The OP stated he already has a MicroTech2400 amp available ;)
