View Full Version : TBS HD now pillarboxing commercials
First, I didn't want to bump a 2-year old thread for this.
I don't know if any 4:3 native shows are being shown with pillarboxes, Seinfeld is on right now in 16:9 HD.
EDIT: Shows/movies are still being stretched.

sansri88 03-30-09, 07:38 PM Whoa! Let's see if they stop stretch-o-vision now on actual programs...
Is TNT HD doing the same?
Nope, TNT is still doing the funhouse mirror effect for their commercials.
petergaryr 03-30-09, 07:55 PM This could be the start of something really good.
Marcus Carr 03-30-09, 07:59 PM
Send in those cards and letters. Tell them you approve.
rebkell 03-30-09, 08:00 PM I checked out TBS when I saw this thread and Friends was in stretch-o-vision.
Marcus Carr 03-30-09, 08:02 PM Family Guy is stretched.

Wow. This could be good news.
CPanther95 03-30-09, 08:29 PM Wow. This could be good news.
For advertisers. ;)
So far, it is only commercials. All SD programming is still funhouse mirror stretched and labeled as "HD".
nickdawg 03-30-09, 08:56 PM TBS is the epitome of stupid.
When you look up stupid in the dictionary, there's a TBS ad bug next to the definition.
Why the HELL would they stretch programming and not commercials?
Unless this is just some leftover stretched programming that's still in the system. This pillarbox thing just started today, right?
Now more than ever we need to hit up TBS email. Give TBS POSITIVE FEEDBACK about their change and ask them to continue it to actual programming.

Johnny5.1 03-30-09, 10:43 PM sidenote, also noticed AMC was showing the Godfather in 4:3 rather than stretch-o-vision. Are the two channels related?
acs12798 03-30-09, 11:03 PM sidenote, also noticed AMC was showing the Godfather in 4:3 rather than stretch-o-vision. Are the two channels related?
Nope Turner owns TBS, AMC is owned by Rainbow Media(Cablevision)

Please don't give Webster's any ideas. If they think they can make money with pop up ads and bugs it'll be a mess. Worst pop up book ......... ever. ;)
Tom Wellman 03-31-09, 04:04 PM TBS. . . Very Annoying!!!!
LCDSpazz 03-31-09, 08:12 PM There's the possibility that some advertisers complained about their commercials looking like crap in stretch-o-vision. Of course, the shows looking like crap is less important to them.
mikey mo 03-31-09, 09:45 PM Yes, also noticed this, and commented in the AMC topic.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to the AMC thread to see if there is any news on AMC's HD. Second season of MAD MEN will be here soon.

My Bad. I watched the first season on Blu-Ray and was waiting for the second season scheduled for Blu-ray release soon. I guess I had "second season" on the brain.

I'm sorry to be a spoil sport; however, "my bad" is simply BAD.
I ran into my old high school English teacher recently and all these years later she couldn't quite recall my name, but recalled that it was pronounced differently that it is spelled. Her next question: How is your language? I replied that because of her, when I "bastardized" the language, at least I knew that I had done so. However, I'm very careful around the grandchildren, as they aren't old enough to know the difference.
Let's be careful and monitor ourselves out there!

I can understand teachers getting bent out of shape over it, but a lot of people use slang, and it will be used until the end of time. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. ;)
I’ve been watching a few Seinfeld’s lately, and it’s amazing; they not only have the bug on the right, but on the left, they promo upcoming shows and take two lines to do it. JFC, will they ever stop? That’s rhetorical.
mx6bfast 04-01-09, 02:14 PM Odd.

I vehemently disagree.

If Optimus Prime uses it, it's legit.
SuperAmmo 04-02-09, 12:31 PM Why the HELL would they stretch programming and not commercials?
Easy...why would advertisers pay extra to run HD commercials when the average viewer thinks their SD commercials are HD via the "funhouse mirror" effect?
It's all so TBS can charge extra for HD commercials...at least that's what I'm betting on.
sansri88 08-29-09, 08:43 AM TNT is now doing this as well. Just noticed this morning while watching Homicide: Life on the Street
