Hey Everyone,

First, I need to start by saying I am not where near as good with audio equipment as I am with computers :) Also, I am not a huge audio junkie, so please don't hate or make fun of me and my simplistic views :)

I just bought my first house (yay!) and we are turning the upstairs game room into a tv/game room. I am getting into the attic to do some Ethernet wiring, and figured I would take this time to wire for surround sound as well. I am going to wire for 7.1 surround as that is what I have.

I have a basic 7.1 system now that I am going to stick with until I stop being so poor (buying a house will do that to you...stupid down payment and closing costs... sheesh!) . I have this http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater-systems/onkyo-ht-sr800-black/4505-6740_7-32421727.html. I know, not awesome, but it works for what I use it for.

So, I have been looking online for 7.1 wall plates and wiring ect. Here is where I am stuck. I do not know enough about these products to know if I am getting the right stuff. Here is what I am thinking about getting: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000PH079M/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A385A0XNQBW8HY&v=glance and http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002KRCF4/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A385A0XNQBW8HY&v=glance. Will these work for what I need? If not, what do you recommend? I am trying to do this at a good quality, but good price as well. Also, would 16-gauge speaker wire be good enough? This is not a huge room, maybe 15x15...how much wire do you think I will need?

I am sorry about the n00b questions, but want to make sure I get the right pieces to do the job.

Thanks!

Nice! Prices look great. Are the type of plates I posted what I need? If so I will look for equivalents on their site.

16 awg wont be bad for the system you have but if you plan on upgrading i would go with a 14 or even 12 awg (might be overkill) since it's only a couple of $ more. Doing it once is the best way. Im sure you dont want to go in the attic again. also look for CL2 rated cable for anything going in the walls. Mono price will show you in the title if its rated for inwall.(once again do it right the first time.)

That sounds good to me. you said your room was 15 x 15. You could you 14 awg to same some money and never notice the differece. I know in previous post i said to use 12 gauge but I'm really thinking that will be over kill for your project. I would wait till some others chime in on this to see if any other opinions.
