View Full Version : Problem: Blending Sub w/ Speakers.
yeahman68 03-30-09, 11:35 PM My problem is that the subwoofer seems to overpower the speakers at times, and it gets rather annoying, especially when switching from bass heavy music, to bass light music. Is there anyway I can make the subwoofer blend better?
The crossover on the sub is at maximum, and the receiver's crossover frequency is at 100 hz. I mean, I like bass, it's just that sometimes there's too much of it. It's a 2.1 system by the way.

how do you post images?I haven't been successful either.
how do you post images?
AFAIK you need to upload your images to an online host. Then you can use the link provided by the host to post your images.
What I want to know is how to post an image that only members can see.

I've had this problem too. From what I gather, you have to fiddle with placement, levels, and crossovers. Like you, I had a good sub and it seemed to overpower my towers. There seemed to be a gap between my towers and the sub. And yes, it was annoying. You shouldn't notice the sub, it should blend in. Now I'm back to the drawing board. My towers have subs, so I'm using them for now.

What receiver are you using and how did you determine the crossover frequency, level and channel delay?
yeahman68 03-31-09, 01:44 PM My receiver is the onkyo tx-sr304. Concerning the X-over frequency, i just know that you're supposed to have it at around 80 hz. I had it at 100 hz, but just minutes ago, i changed it to 80 hz, changed the bass EQ to +4 instead of +10, and seem to get a better sound. (just kinda miss that "thump.") However, I do believe that the distance between the speakers could be problem; They are about 4 feet between each other. The levels are all at zero. I just calibrated the distance. I'll tell you how they sound in a moment.
yeahman68 03-31-09, 01:50 PM I set the distance between the front to be 4 feet. However, i set the distance to the subwoofer the 8 ft. When it is referring to the subwoofer distance, it's referring to the distance from the fronts to the wall correct? Anyways, there's a very dramatic difference in which there is A LOT less bass. The distance was previously set to 2 ft, and i was getting a lot more bass.
Fanaticalism 03-31-09, 01:54 PM The distance is from the listening position, but there is more to it than just physical distance.
yeahman68 03-31-09, 02:00 PM Okay let me fix that. By the way, is it worth mentioning that I'm sitting against a wall when listening. That is, the speakers are facing a wall about 5 feet away from which i am listening.
yeahman68 03-31-09, 02:10 PM I think I just need to play around w/ the settings to find the best sound. I think I'm getting close. I've correctly entered the distances, and I think I just need to mess around w/ the levels and bass EQ.
