Hi all. First off this is a great site and I thank everyone who responds in advance for their input.

I just purchased a Harmon/Kardon AVR 154. I am using my old speakers from a previous "in box" home theater system. However I cannont use my sub due to the fact that it only has speaker level inputs from the receiver. I have been looking for a new sub thats in my price range but I am curious since I have never purchased a powered subwoofer. The "sub pre out" on my AVR is the only output. I've looked at many subs online and I only see the ones that have the L and R line level inputs. Could I use these with my AVR? I also heard that I would need one that has an "LFE input" and also an LFE cable. Is this true? If so what is a good brand at a decent price? Also, is an LFE cable just a subwoofer cable? I read some people use regular RCA jacks. Are RCA jacks the best quality cable to use or is quality not the best issue when it comes to the low frequencies its carrying? I know its a lot of questions but I want to make sure I purchase the right sub and have the best quality sound. Thanks to everyone in advance.

A sub with left and right inputs is fine. You can use either one to run a sub cable to the sub pre-out. Usually an overpriced sub cable is not necessary. Here are some examples of cables of different price ranges:

In my experience, the inexpensive ones work just fine. LFE cable is a subwoofer cable.
