I purchased a new vivitek d326mx. I have my projector connected with my laptop to a Belkin power surge cord hooked to an extension cord. Both nights during my power point presentation the projector automatically turns off about 45 minutes into my presentation. I am not able to restart by the use of the power button nor the remote. My presentation is only about an hour.
I purchased this through the ProjectorPeople.com and their techs say it is probally a surge happening at the restuarant where I conduct my meetings.
When I hook the same configuration at my home the projector never goes out.
Techs say I should never use an extension cord nor a power surge protector and plug directly into the wall outlet. Unrealistic as the projector cord would not be able to reach the wall outlet without some form of extension.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Does the projector blink any error on it's status leds when it shuts off?
Is the projector well ventilated when you make your presentation? The fact that it happened twice at 45mins in would make me suspect heat over power. Also, the fact that you can't restart it tends to make me think it's in some type of protection mode.
If the status lights don't show anything, the projector is well ventilated, and the room isn't excessivy hot, then, you could aways try dragging a UPS to your presentation and see if it helps.

I think you may have mis-understood them. An extension cord is never a good idea unless you can't avoid it, but I've never heard anyone say a surge protector is bad, and from what I've read their techs seem to be pretty knowledgable. That's one of the reason I'll only purchase AV equipment from forum sponsors - all of them seem to have good tech support and customer service.
Please post what you see the LED's doing - if you get a temp warning, it's overheating. If the projector just shuts off without any abnormal LED behavior it's probably a power issue. If it's a power issue it's probably not a surge, it's probably something on the same circuit drawing power away from the projector.
Get a power conditioner that protects against both surges and under-volt conditions. Panamax is a good brand.

It is not an overheating issue. I have run the projector for several hours at my office without any issues with an extension cord and power saver strip. Sounds like it's power being driven away by other sources at the restuarant. Will the power conditioner fix this problem? Can I plug both my laptop and projector into the power conditioner? Can I use an extension cord as well?
Thanks
