The new bottom line is during the NBA Draft. Kind of forgot what it looked like. The bottom line looks great with the graphics. It's not a BottomLine, per se. It's just a draft tracker. The same they used for this year's NFL Draft.

Honestly, live sports, during the daytime, there is NO need at all for a BottomLine. If you are watching this soccer game on ESPN right now, you've seen the same sports updates about 500 times by now.

Why can't they just take it off for stuff like this?

I've often wondered this during all live events why don't they remove that big, ugly arse ticker. Its beyond annoying seeing it there. If I want to see the scores I will go to ESPNews on my system or ESPNClassic, or wherever the hell else it is stuck 24/7.

Whether it is ESPN or ESPN 2 live sporting events, the brass at ESPN ought to seriously not show that behemoth ticker during live sports. Its refreshing to watch Wimbledon without it.

Yeah, as you can see way back on the first page, the new BottomLine is identical to the one on ESPNEWS, except it retains the traditional red, black, and yellow color scheme (and obviously does a lot more tricks than just scrolling headlines).

I know it isn't the real thing. What I ment was that it was the style of the new bottomline.

Kind of. The new BottomLine doesn't use black text on a white background.

Ok how bout it debuts for the hot dog contest tomorrow ?

At this point, I highly doubt the re-introduction of the new BottomLine is going to be tied to any specific event. It'll get put up when it's ready, and that's it.

No bottom line this evening for Baseball Tonight and now NFL live, 9:30 Pacific Time.

Hmmm, and now it's back at 9:35.

Hm, I can see the "2" on my 15" 4:3 TV w/ SD box.

I guess it's the way it's fitted on my TV then. I have a 20" Sony. I know it's there, but I can't see it because it's cutoff

It's up on ESPNU as well. It's smaller than the old BottomLine, but they've increased the overscan protection so in all it's probably a net loss of screen space.

It's SportsNation a new show? I just noticed it on ESPN2.

EDIT: Using my on-screen guide as a rudimentary measuring tool, the ESPNEWS BottomLine is several pixels lower than the ESPNU BottomLine, which is itself at least a pixel or two lower than the ESPN2 and ESPN BottomLines. Which probably explains why I'm getting some bleed through underneath the ESPN and ESPN2 BottomLines.

Three months later, we finally get it back. It's kind of funny with baseball on now, seeing the spiffy new BottomLine with the old score bug.

Nice, looks sharp, 1080ish

Next phase, cut old blurry baseball game scoreboard and paste with the new scoreboard graphics as well!

Last night we were eating out and in the bar I immediately noticed the Bottom Line was different and pointed it out to my wife who had about the same opinion you did. This is a woman who is a huge HD nut so I magine many others will have the same ho-hum reaction.

Oh I noticed it was different - and am a huge HD nut - but all the talk earlier in this thread made me think it was going to be some revolutionary change. I wish they'd get rid of the thing completely and go back to showing it every half hour.

There's only so much you can do within the format of the BottomLine, and they changed every aspect of the visual style.

Not all of the posts are about the BottomLine. Many of them are about the new LA studio and the new SportsCenter graphics as well.

Way too high? It's lower than the old one.

Perhaps it's the fact that it has a silver background that makes me notice its height a lot more than the black, but it seems higher than the old BottomLine.

I do think the new ESPN logo on the right side seems a tad less bright white, so that should be a little better for those with older plasma sets. I know I occaisionally got some temporary image retention on mine before at the end of long viewing days.

Actually, both the old and new BottomLine are the same height, starting at the 646th pixel out of 720, taking up %10.28 of the screen.

I do agree that ESPN reserves a little too much room for overscan.

There u go....theres another reason they should go 1080 like almost everyone else....then it would be a lesser %. :D

How would it be a lesser percentage of the screen? If they left it at line 646 and made it bigger, it would be a larger percentage. If they leave it the same size, the percentage will remain the same.

Its like a shirt....if the shirts in water an hour or 2 hours its still basically wet the same.

The time doesnt matter.....like the total TV lines.

Yes, I'm still going on about this. But really, that much overscan compensation doesn't bother anyone? Couldn't they at least fade it to black to make it less distracting?

It is very distracting. Like when it comes on back from a commercial break and it's bright white.

If this was mentioned and I missed it, my apologies for reviving an old thread. The new SC graphics package is in use for SportsCenterU and ESPNU studio shows out of Charlotte have been in HD since at least the beginning of this new college football season.

I know that ESPNU HD isn't available on a lot of providers, so I figured this might've slipped under the radar.
