Just a general HT sound question with a little rant.

When watching dvds or the new BDs I find that I have sound proportion problems. For example, on many discs I find that I cannot effectively hear the dialogue. I handle the HT in my house, so I get all the complaints. My family tells me, "I can't hear what they're saying." So, the next obvious thing to do is to turn up the level on the AVR. Then, there is an explosion or a plane rumbles overhead and it nearly blows our eardrums out. It seems like they make the dialogue soft and the "wow" effects LOUD. It makes it difficult to watch a movie in my house without holding the AVR remote. When I watch "24" or "CSI" on TV the explosions are not nearly as loud. Is there anything that I can do to even out the dialogue with the "wow" effects? Thanks.

PS I ran audyssey.

You could engage "Night Mode" or "Dynamic Range Limiter" or whatever else it may be called on your particular receiver.

This will decrease the dynamic range, meaning the average volume level will stay more consistant with, obviously less dynamic range.

See if that helps. ;)
