Hello, this will be my first projector purchase and I need some advice.

The room that I will be using is 10 feet by 11 feet with a 7.5 foot tall ceiling. I am going to be purchasing a 1080p entry level projector. I have narrowed my choices down to either the Sanyo Z700 or the Epson HC6100 (unless you guys have a better suggestion for my setup). The room has one window and it will be completely blocked out, so there should be absolutely no light in the room at any time. I would be able to mount the projector directly over my seating, so projector positioning should be ideal.

That being said, do you guys think it would be better for me to go with the Z700 or the HC6100? And since there will be no light in the room, will it matter if I use a gray screen or a white screen?

I have one more question. When I set up the projector, if I use the zoom lens to get as big a picture as possible, will it distort or lessen the image quality in any way?

Thanks!
Matt

Don't want to get into a debate over projectors but Sanyo is currently offering a $200 rebate on the Z700. Link (http://us.sanyo.com:80/Dynamic/customPages/docs/projectors_Z700-$200RebateCertFlyer.pdf)

Max zoom is not a problem unless you are maxing out lens shift as well. Actually, max zoom with minimum throw will give you a brighter picture that will minimum zoom with max throw.

Since your room is smallish you'll probably have a screen < 100" so brightness shouldn't be a problem. A grey screen should give you better contrast and allow for some ambient light in the room.

Either projector would be great in your light controlled small room. I would purchase the cheaper Sanyo model, myself, in your case.

I'm looking at the same two, where's the best prices on both, if against the rules PM me.

Price talk is verboten. That being said, ever hear of GOOGLE? There's even a Google search box strategically positioned in the header of the AVS Forum screen!
