Hello All,

I have an interesting problem in my setup. I have a MacMini I bought in 2008, it's the model that has a standard DVI connector/output. It has OS X 10.5.6
My display is an Optoma HD80, and it has a DVI input and two HDMI inputs. I wanted to use the DVI input to connect an SCART source, so I used a DVI-HDMI cable I got from Monoprice to connect the MacMini. I can see the picture, but most vertical edges have little horizontal lines extending to their left. I tried many different resolutions, and while they all work, they all have this strange effect to a varying degree. This happens in the desktop, while watching video, DVDs, anything.
If I connect to the DVI input, the images all look just fine. I thought that DVI and HDMI used the same video signal.
What's up?
Thanks,

chris

This is just a guess, but it sounds like the cable is the problem. I have also bought some things from Monoprice and I am not so happy with the quality. If you can borrow or buy another cable, I would try that first.

It might also have to do with some kind of additional processing that may be going on inside the HD80. I would make sure all the gimmicky settings are turned off for the HDMI input in question, like sharpness, dynamic contrast, or any other TV-specific gewgaw that a typical computer monitor doesn't have.

It could be that the DVI input port of the HD80 is more free of this stuff in the default condition. Hopefully the HDMI port can be brought to parity in this regard when compared with the DVI port.

Hi eltobol,

I have the same problem. how was this resolved? I've tried all the settings I can. Was it the cable?

Thanks
