Okay, don't laugh but I am considering my options here. I have a Sharp XV-Z9000 PJ I bought back in '04. It has performed admirably, but now it is in need of its 2nd replacement bulb. I would LOVE to have a newer unit but my finances will not permit it right now. With the cost of a new bulb being $400, would I be better off spending another $400 - $500 and getting a newer PJ? Even like a used XV-Z12000 or similar unit? I am limited by component cable run from the amp in the front to the PJ in the back. I am not prepared to rip out ceiling to replace w/ HDMI just yet.

Thanks!

How much would you spend on a new projector?

I don't really have budget - no more than $1000 right now.

Yes. For that extra $500 you'll be getting a lot. If your projector were only two generations back it might be another story, but we're talking a 4 generation leap for only about $500.

Well for 1000 you can get an Infocus x10 (http://thetechhunter.blogspot.com/2009/03/1300-infocus-x10-1080p-dlp-projector.html)1080p projector.

I also don't see how to get an X10 for $1000. That would be a good deal but I don't see it even with live.com search.
