View Full Version : SA 8300HDC won't save audio device options

I have a new 8300 HDC HD/DVR box with TWC in Southern California. I have the box plugged into my TV via HDMI cable. I also have a Sony surround sound system that is from a few years back and doesn't have an HDMI input, so I use optical.

I notice that the box defeaults in Settings>Devices to HDMI and that only gives me the PCM style sound. I switch that to Dolby Digital and save it and I get the nice sound I'm used to. It seems that after awhile, this reverts back to HDMI. This happens at night or if I haven't been using the TV for some time (I would assume it has something to do with the box going to sleep or rebooting as was mentioned in previous threads).

All of the other settings (resolution, screen shape...etc) seem to save except for the audio settings. Is there a way to get it to save as Dolby Digital and stop having it default to HDMI? Am I better off just using Component instead of HDMI for the video?

Thanks in advance.

same problem with me. This just started happening after the recent TWC update. Was perfectly fine before. Hopefully they will come out with an update real soon.

Alot of people are complaining about this now

A tech just came by, and told me that this problem only affects the OCAP compliant boxes.

That would be the SA8300HDC. They are going to try to find me an older box and swap it out. I'll let you know the results.

I need the DVR option still so I may stop by time warner and see if I can get the 8300HD. Would this box work.
