Is it possible to split the audio out of an HDMI cable to a digital audio (coax or optical). I have a Denon receiver with 2 HDMI pass-through inputs. Unfortunately, the AVR-588 will not pull the audio from the HDMI. I have to use coax or optical from the device to receiver audio input. I now have 4 HDMI devices that I need to connect (cable box, dvd changer, xbox 360, computer). I have a 5x1 HDMI switch but I can only assign 1 audio input to an HDMI input. Does anyone make an adapter that can take an HDMI signal and send the audio stream out on a coax or optical? That way I can take the single HDMI output to the adapter, and then the video to the HDMI pass-through of the receiver and the digital audio to an input.

Here's an example, there's probably others and maybe variations. http://smartvm.com/HDMI-Switcher-2x1-v13b-with-Separate-SPDIF-COAX-Toslink-Audio-Output-Channel-P39534.htm

I just got one of these exact devices from a seller on ebay, it not only works as advertised so far (only gotten around to watching stuff that was DD, so don't know yet if DTS and stereo PCM work, but I don't see why not), but it fixed a problem I had in my existing setup. I just got a new receiver with HDMI in the living room and moved the old one to the bedroom and this lets me feed it audio via HDMI instead of coaxial spdif, simplifying things.

Short version, multiple sources > 4:2 matrix A> receiver > DLP; 4:2 matrix B> (now this box>) moome ISS card. The TivoHD, failed the HDCP connection when the receiver was in the loop on one side and the moome on the other, but without receiver it was happy. With this here, suddenly its happy again! I had to keep juggling the two outputs around so only one would be on the TivoHD. Eventually I'll get a real HDTV in the bedroom but for now its an old CRT + old moome ISS :)
