Is there a list somewhere of which channels Dish broadcasts in 720p vs. 1080i? Trying to find out the native resolution they're sending out. Thanks.

Whether it be Dish, DirecTV, or Cable: CBS, CW, PBS & NBC will be 1080i while ABC, ESPN and Fox will be 720p. I'd say 75% or more broadcast in 1080i. Here are some others: USA – 1080i Disney Channel – 720p Fox News – 720p ABC Family – 720p TBS – 1080i Hallmark Channel – 1080i TNT – 1080i Lifetime – 1080i Nick at Nite – 1080i This thread might help you... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=164671 Brajesh 04-03-09, 10:00 PM Thanks. I'm asking as I want to record to my Hauppauge HD PVR in the format the box is receiving. Another way to remember: Basically everything Disney and Fox owned 720p everything else 1080i CycloneGT 04-04-09, 12:44 PM Also those networks run by A&E are also 720p. I think that includes the History channel. For me, I personally gave up caring about 1080 vs 720 a long time ago. Its not like we have any control over it. Either you want to watch a show on that channel or you don't. Not much you can do about it otherwise except not watch. Who wants to do that? A&E Networks are Disney owned. coyoteaz 04-05-09, 03:07 AM A&E Networks are Disney owned. Co-owned by Hearst, NBC Uni, and Disney. Hearst is firmly in the 1080i camp, to the point that 5 of their ABC affiliates run HD at 1080i. NBC Uni is obviously on the 1080i side of things as well. NetworkTV 04-05-09, 05:09 AM Also those networks run by A&E are also 720p. I think that includes the History channel. History Channel is owned by Discovery Networks. I'm pretty sure the OP just wanted to know what the native resolution was so he could record them properly. The question is, though, can the box output both resolutions natively. I thought it was either/or with E*. TVOD 04-05-09, 10:34 AM The question is, though, can the box output both resolutions natively. One would need to manually change the IRD's output resolution to match the channel's native format. choskyigragspa 04-05-09, 05:18 PM History Channel is owned by Discovery Networks. Umm...you're unfortunately mistaken about that. History Channel is an A&E Television Network. And the earlier poster is correct that both A&E HD and History HD are 720p (as would be Biography HD and Crime & Investigation HD, since they're A&E channels as well). Brajesh 04-06-09, 10:16 AM It did help, thank you. And yes, I need to switch the Dish DVR manually to 1080i or 720p depending on which channel's content I want to capture natively. |
