So I'm being incredibly indecisive in my projector hunt but I've got it narrowed down to the HC1600 and the HD65. Here's my dilemma, after comparing photo's on Projector Reviews it would appear as though the HC1600 has pretty phenomenal shadow detail which is very important to me. As best I can tell, the HD65 crushes the hell out of black areas and there is little to no detail in dark areas. This is a problem for me as I play a lot of video games that have sections where everything is very dark and I need to be able to see everything.

However the HD65 seems like a better projector in every other regard. Everyone seems to agree the color is much better and the blacks are blacker.

I can get both of these for about the same price. So really it all comes down to: Does the HC1600 trounce the HD65's shadow detail like the pictures on Projector Reviews would lead me to believe? Bearing in mind that I'm viewing a lot of dark content where shadow detail is important which one would you ultimately recommend?

I think both of those projectors can be adjusted to improve detail in dark scenes. You can change gamma settings as well as tweak the brightness up a bit. Keep in mind Art is doing all of those screenshots in the projectors best movie mode, which isn't going to be the best for gaming anyway.

Which one is ultimately better is hard to say. If you're sensitive to DLP rainbows at all though, I'd go with the HD65 since the Mits has a 2x color wheel.
