Hi All,

Don't have a flat screen TV, I am currently using a Sony 27" CRT and an Infocus X1a projector on 72" widescreen manual pull down. I have been happy with my setup, but the wife wants a change!

I am considering the following (based around same price of $985-$1198 Cdn.)

Samsung A410 50" Plasma (720p)
LG 50PG25 50" Plasma (720p)
LG 47LG50 47" LCD (1080p)
Sceptre X46BV 46" LCD (1080P)

Sitting approx. 11 feet from screen.

Will have computer, wii, DVD, etc. hooked up.
Both LCD sets will do 1080p resolution through VGA port, that would be nice via computer for playing that type of content etc. I watch movies and TV shows etc. through computer right now on an old infocus x1a projector and am pleased with results. As for Blu Ray, would likely eventually get a Blu Ray player or recorder for the computer and go through VGA ??

Do 1080p plasmas offer 1080p resolution through VGA port ?

Does 1080p vs 720p matter from this distance with the Plasma vs LCD listed.

How crazy important is 1080p really?

I am VERY confused and would appreciate any/all feedback.

Thanks In Advance

p.s. Also considering the Optoma HD65 720p projector (refurb for $550 Cdn.)

There is also the Sharp LC52SB55U 52" 1080P at dell.ca or a bit more

$1399 ..... but don't know if it does 1080p through VGA, can't find any info.

Not Aquos, but looks good ?!?!

So CONFUSED....SOoooo Many choices.

Thanks again for any help.

Personally, at 11 feet I don't think 1080P is absolutely necessary, depending on the screen size and the prospects of you changing your seating position.

I trust that your video card can output at 720P resolution over the VGA, if necessary? And does it have an hdmi or a dvi output?

No cable or satellite?

This may not pare your list down any, but:

Of your choices the, 50PG25 is a nice set and at a really good price, but I hear that it is succeptible to IR, like a lot of past LG plasmas. So it may not be the best choice for your setup. Being a FS exclusive there's not a lot of info out there on it. I believe the european version is PG6000 for searching. The really new LG PQ30 (see BB) may be an option, if it's in your price range, but it's early, no real reviews yet. Looks impressive though.

The A410 is the walmart version of the A450, I'd say see if the 50A450 is being cleared out elsewhere. More info is known about it. Or look at the new B450's. I think IR is OK.

Never heard of the Sceptre.

Not to dis the LG50, depending on price, it may be a good option, but maybe you can find a Samsung A530 or A550 clearing soon, for the same price. Or the new B530's.

If you're in low light, I think the plasmas will give you better performance per/inch/$$.
As long as IR and game lag aren't issue's with the model chosen.
If you watch sports, you may notice some fast motion issues with the 60hz LCD's.
LCD's will be better, if you have sunlight or direct reflections in your your viewing room.

Panasonic plasmas typically have the least incidence with IR, you might be able to find a 720P 50PX80 clearing out. I've seen them at times for under 1K cdn. New X1,S1 and
U1's are coming also.

Sorry to widen the field on you like this.

Definitely a plasma you are coming from a crt tube its going to be less then enjoyable going to an lcd. also you wont benefit from 1080p at 11ft, while 1080p does make everything smoother that is up to you.

i would get a 720p plasma over a 1080p lcd thats for sure, i would not put resolution over picture quality or tv.

so get picture quality and get plasma as its the closes technology to look as realistic as crt as possible.

Your two best choices would be either the Panasonic 50PX80U (if you can still find one) or the new LG 50PQ30.

The LG is the brightest plasma currently available that I know of. "Bright" may be a dirty word in the plasma forum, but if you're tempted by an LCD, the LG will be nearly as bright AND it will have better blacks and motion rendering than any LCD near its price. I've heard that Best Buy Canada has them.
