Amazon HDNet titles (48): These are 25-50 min HDNet docs sold only via Amazon.com for a very short window after release (probably a few weeks). They are 1080i mpeg2 recorded on a DVD-r, so whether these need to be included with the others as part of an essential HD DVD collection is debatable. I chose not to include them, as most have even been verified to exist and mainly because of just being low grade docs on DVD-r, so you have to draw the line somewhere I suppose.

No, I don't know about "Escorts" for sure, but the site I bought a lot of adult titles from had it in stock for at least a month or two, and they kept their product list pretty accurate. Maybe I will contact the site and see what they say...

As long as there's no discussion on porn discs and the titles are "reasonable", the list can stay. No links, too. AVS is a all-ages site. I didn't pull DrCrawn's thread, but things did get out of control at times with discussion. If you can't find a place on the internet to talk about porn, you are a primo computer illiterate. Or Mommy and Daddy have the site blockers enabled. :)

I received my set today, and it does look pretty good. I wish there was some narration though (maybe there is, but I haven't come across any yet in the few minutes I watched). Just like I thought, they are on single layer DVD-r. Title added to list. Thanks again for the discovery! :)

According to various sites, there were two versions of Eyes Wide Shut that were released. A regular "R rated" version and an "Unrated Version". According to Amazon, the unrated version was released 10/23/07 and the regular version released 1/22/08, with both versions released on 1 disc. No UPCs are provided by Amazon.

To add confusion, on ebay I see a "2-Disc Special Edition" being listed by several sellers. The version I have, which only has 1 disc, has the same UPC (883929012060) as the ebay 2-Disc Special Edition, so I know that ebay's UPC must be incorrect. Additionally, the UPC for the ebay 2-Disc Special Edition shows a release of 1/22/08, and again I know that is incorrect, since the version for that UPC which I have states (1) a 2007 Copyright; (2) "This Unrated Version Contains Material Different from the R Rated Version"; and (3) it is not rated.

My questions are:
1. Was there a second R rated release?
2. If so, was it a 2-Disc Special Edition?
3. Was it released on 1/22/08?
4. What is the UPC for it?

I would like to track down this version and compare the two. I know there were 2 releases for Troy and Full Metal Jacket, so I would not be surprised if there was a second one here as well.

Which is a better transfer? I know the UK Blu-ray doesn't have the DNR, but did screencaps of the UK HD DVD ever get compared on this forum? I have both and don't need both. I watched both but they looked similar to me. Maybe the UK has less DNR?

Same here, I have both the Studio Canal (Dutch) and the US..which has the better transfer? My UK is still sealed, actually. It has a far better coverart, but doesn't have the extra documentary like the US does.

Did the T2 Kinowelt transfer bettered the Studio Canal?

Pans Labyrinth UK HD DVD PQ is the same as the UK BD, so it does have less DNR.

I'm not aware of any difference in The Pianist releases, but if there is, it's probably very minor or negligible.

It's debatable which T2 has the better transfer, but judging from what I've read, more people with a preference seem to think the French version has a tad more detail (I can't tell any difference though).

A surprisingly long list, still, with at least a few really good movies on it as well!

The HD masters for Channels should be burned and buried in the desert. The only redeeming quality of that movie unlike Ishtarand Xanadu is that obviously no major money was spent creating it.

However, Universal has quite a few reference titles that are not yet on Blu. The two Elizabeth movies and The Pianist are all Dolby TrueHD.

It would be very subjective. Some titles like THE THING are better in PQ but the DNR'ed BD has lossless audio.

Actually I'm working on it, as well as other subcategories. Here's what I have so far.

Disc specs on the Universal titles. Some are unfinished as I still have the shrink wrap on them. The info for each row reads as follows:

Title-->year-->file creation date (if noted)-->aspect ratio-->movie time-->movie size(MB)-->disc size(MB)-->TrueHD audio (if available)--> "In Movie Experience" or PiP [iME] (if available)--> Web-enabled features [Web] (if available)

Notes:
1) files sizes are in megabytes (1 MB = 1,048,543 bytes, or approx. 0.9537 GB)
2) movie sizes include all the audio, subtitle and PiP (if any) tracks.
3) All Universal video codecs are VC-1 1080p/24fps
4) all primary audio codecs are DD+ @ 1536 mbps unless noted otherwise (which is nearly always TrueHD).
5) All TrueHD tracks are 24 bits and the secondary audio track is either DD+ 384 or 448 mbps unless noted otherwise. DTS-HD secondary tracks are 1509 mbps.
6) All disc sizes under 15000 MB are single layer
7) Combo discs are noted in red on the disc size, and in BOLD red if the DVD side contains special features not found on the HD DVD side (usually with the Combo 15/9 titles)
8) the DVD side of a combo disc is always dual layer
9) Titles in purple were day and date releases with the DVD
10) file creation date = newest "last modified" file on the disc

Yes, it was.

These three unique titles were added recently to the list:

Deadlands 2: Trapped (in Other Studio's Movies)

Railway Story: China South Part 1 (in the import list under doc/other)
Railway Story: China South Part 2

I had assumed the last two never got released, since the release date was 3/26/08, over a month after the format war ended, and that no copies were known to exist until now. Anyway, there are 10 Railway Story titles instead of 8.

Also Railway Story: China Part 1 has been changed to Railway Story China North Part 1. The same goes for part 2.

Please, can anyone tell me where is the list of HD DVDs that have superior audio over their Blu-ray counterpart.

IE: The Any Bully and Happy Feet both feature TrueHD soundtracks on the HD DVD releases, but only Dolby Digital lossy on the Blu-rays.

It's a 3x DVD not a real HD DVD. It should play. It should just make a lot of noise.

So even thos it says HD DVD on the disc and the Manufacturers site, it really isn't? My Toshiba says "NO DISC"

You might just have a bad disc, or it might be dirty--might have to do the boil or spray away method.

I heard these were initially released with the HD DVD label, but they were only DVDs with WMV HD files on them. Try popping it in your computer. I am guessing it will play.

Pirates, although it's on dvd rom DL media, is encoded in the HD DVD format (720p VC-1). It's definitely not a WMV and it plays fine on my XA2 (which it would not do if it were a WMV disc).

I noted the date for those soon to be released. Thanks for making this list it helped me figure out some of the discs I am still holding onto like Sneakers waiting for Blu-Ray version.

FYI-the info regarding this disc, that Jung is referring to was originally posted by a different member (not Jung), at another popular hi-def forum. Not sure if that person is the same person I dealt with over the last few weeks. But a package I paid for from another member never arrived after almost 2 months, and I've initiated a fraud investigation(I've gotten no other answers from original seller). No idea if this is the same seller that has now mysteriously appeared with the same titles and a different screen name, but just be very careful. If he's in Russia, you will not be able to send payments with some popular nad protected online payment methods, so excercise extra caution. Good luck, everyone.
