All I seem to see on these boards is panasonic and pioneer as well as some samsung. Why nothing on the LG's...I went to two stores to check out the new panasonics (best buy and sears) and left both stores thinking that the new LG 50PQ30 looked better than any of the panasonics. and yes I played wiht the settings on both TV's (taking it out of torch mode). I dont know about LG prior to this year but their new offerings look pretty strong.

Because LG plasma TVs are suitable only for people that want to watch TV. They don't work well for measurebators. Very, very, very few of former crowd on this forum.

If the black levels were up to average levels like Samsung and the reliablity were higher I would buy one. Everytime I have seen one the colors were just as vibrant as the other brands if not more. The reviews from cnet and the magazines have not helped.

Well, personally I love my LG42PG6000 :), my boss recommended it to me and he was right, the picture is great and my next plasma will also be a LG except then bigger :).
I think 42inch is too small for me :), I watch a lot of movies with it and because I work in a Cinema the screen can't be big enough ;).

OK...you go to the store...play with the remotes on the LG and a panasonic that will probably be next to it..out of the box the lg looks better. Now you could probably pay a few hundred for calibration of the panny...but anyone whos looking to buy a tv for under 1k isnt interested in spending another few hundred on calibration

The problem with LG is that they had a shakey history with their plasmas. Some of their older models had issues. The 2008 models have seen very few complaints (compared to other brands) with only the black levels coming under criticism. Furthermore, the LG blacks are not terrible, they are easily comparable to Samsung's 2008 plasmas. I've compared the blacks on a Samsung PN50A550 and an LG 50PG60 and their black levels/luminescence was nearly identical. As for quality, take a look at these forums and you'll find more complaints about other brands than about LG.

If I had money to burn, and had to choose between a Pioneer Kuro and an LG, I would choose the Kuro. However, at the time when i purchased my 50PG60, the Kuro 5020 was three times the price. Since this forum is mainly for enthusiasts, price to performance ratio takes a back seat.

Take a look at this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1035155&highlight=50pg60&page=26) to see what people say about the 2008 LG plasmas.

I don't judge a TV by what it looks like under 50 high powered ceiling lights like bestbuy, sams, costco, electronics express has. I go to high-end stores that have a setting like my living room has. Then I can compare what looks better.

I have seen a 32" insigma at bestbuy running a blu-ray and a pioneer kuro right next to it running SD cable feed.

I hate to say this but under 1K, it probably doesn't really matter. Most under 1K will pretty much perform about average. Start at the 2K price range for a 50" and you will begin to see the performance differences.

Agree, but I don't think the Panasonics are very good either

The 50PG60 is the one with the solid glass panel correct? I have to say its probably the nicest looking panel design wise. Haven't had the time to take a real close look at the picture though.

Yes it is. Unfortunately they are exclusive to Future Shop and as far as I know they are all sold out. The 60PG60 has been made available again for three more days or so. The PG70 is the equivalent to the PG60 that is available at other retailers.

Since the new 2009 models are out or will be out shortly, I'd wait to see who's "king of the hill" this year and the prices that these TVs are being sold at (given the recession and all). Should be an interesting year...

Shocking! Who would have "thunk" it....I honestly don't know why you keep coming over to the plasma forum....

RESPECT has to be EARNED.......LG's have been known for horrible image retention.... ...You can't force interest in a product, when very little exists. A recent thread about the new LG line produced only a few posts....the people have spoken...and the silence is deafening.

There's a very positive review of a new 50" LG plasma in this month's What HiFi? magazine. Maybe a notch or two below the best, in that blacks may not be quite as good and some noise was noticed from time to time, but it's nowhere near as expensive as "the best" and has a lot going for it. The reviewer said it is an excellent TV and offers a whole lot of bang for the buck.

The LG did look awesome to me but I went with a panny S1 for fear of IR on the LG. Plus I got the S1 for the same price as the 720p LG so it was a no brainer. Oh and free warranty and mount. :)

LG could be a kuro killer if it could achieve better black levels, and improve it's poor image retention.

LG? why would I buy an LG with companies like Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung out there putting out better products?

I would buy an LG over a Samsung anyday.......but the Panny and Pioneer are miles ahead in terma of PQ,although I haven't seen the new LG that is going to be THX certified yet
