My family and I are moving from Texas to Oregon. Approximately 2400 miles. We are renting a 26' Penske Truck. My dilemma is our 55" Sony SXRD Television. We do not have the original packing material. My thought was to set it on a folded blanket or pillows to protect it from the rough ride. Wrap the screen with several blankets, then pack soft material such as bedding, blankets, cushions around it to secure it from rocking or moving around.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Stacking unassembled cardboard boxes under the set might help you as well.
A stack under each end would probably absorb bumps better than the casters directly on the floor. I recently moved a set and used a foam pad mattress against the front bulkhead of the truck and secured straps around the set.
It rode okay.

Another consideration is the truck. In the larger sizes, Penske trucks are much more stiffly suspended than U-Haul, because Penske is reliant on commercial rentals, where U-Haul is strictly household moving, therefore they have softer suspensions.

I believe the medium and small trucks are more similar between the two.
