I heard that Meet The Press will be going HD this year, but haven't heard an official date. Is there one yet?

Any word on MTP in HD? The granddaddy of Sunday morning news shows really should be HD by now! The ABC, CNN, and FNC Sunday morning shows have been HD for quite some time now.

I recall reading in an interview that it was supposed to happen quite soon. The weekly promos (of course, done elsewhere) are in HD, as well are the few stock shots of the set, etc.

Agreed. There is NO excuse for MtP still not in HD in 2010! Fortunately, it's really not that important to see stationary talking heads sitting around a table in HD.

As an aside, David Gregory has done a great job. He's assumed that same tenacious, but still polite, style we all liked with Tim Russert.

They need to get on the ball there.

CBS also needs more news programming in HD but I never watch those anyway.

Everyone needs to get with the HD times this year and hopefully NBC will with MTP and Dateline (so it's HD on I.D.).

I agree it would be nice to have Meet The Press in HD, but it's not really necessary. I watch MTP regardless. HD isn't everything. The Sunday morning show on FOX has been since I got my HDTV in 2006, yet I never watch that show. ;)

On the contrary, Meet The Press may have no choice but to go HD as soon as possible. ABC's This Week and FOx News Sunday are in HD and Face The Nation has plans to go HD perhaps as warly as later this year. Given the fact, however, that Jeff Zucker is a bonafide loser, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if MTP becomes the last show to go HD.

NBC's Washington affiliate, WRC, appears to be on the brink of going HD. I suspect MTP will follow shortly after, since they use WRC facilities (for some unknown reason. MSNBC has a brand new HD studio in the same building).

Looks like NBC Zucked up again. ;)

That is beyond stupid to have a new HD studio(which is obvious from all the HD Washington live interviews on The Rachel Maddow Show) and not use those HD studios for Meet The Press.

That's about as dumb as CBS still having the Early Show in SD, even though the NY evening news studio is HD.

According to this post this week

things will change in May for Early Show.

"'Meet The Press' will be in HD soon, but construction on the network HD control room is yet to start. Look for that this summer".....

Are we looking for MTP this summer, or looking for construction on the control room this summer? I'm assuming it's the former.

I just hope it happens soon.

I'm sick of watching it in SD. There is no excuse for not being in HD yet unless your CBS nationally or locally here in Orlando where we still do not have much syndicated HD programming.

Our affiliate also does not have HD news but I never watch the local news here.

Still, it would be nice to watch Legend of the seeker in HD when I get home Saturday Night in HD.

Some details on the upgrade here: http://www.politico.com/click/stories/1004/sunday_shows_get_nip_tuck.html

David Gregory has been keeping a secret from his “Meet the Press” viewers in recent weeks.

Just feet away from the Sunday show’s infamous six-sided table, a larger, fancier set is waiting to be unveiled sometime in the near future.

The change will visually shift the show from the Tim Russert to the Gregory era. And although NBC is keeping mum on other details, sources said the set change is part of a larger makeover for “MTP” that will also include a new HD format.

Well, according to here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/11/AR2010041103215_2.html) , seems it will be May 2nd.

The look is ultramodern: floor-to-ceiling bookcases, a pair of huge video screens with a White House backdrop, a small, circular glass table as well as a larger, rectangular one.

David Gregory is excited about the "striking" new set for "Meet the Press," which debuts May 2. "This is part of the evolution of the program," he says. "For the Gregory era of the program, there's a visual piece of that. It doesn't limit me to one position. It allows me to use technology in various ways. I can even stand."

‘Meet the Press' to Unveil New Set

May 2 facelift to coincide with long-planned HD launch

By Marisa Guthrie -- Broadcasting & Cable, 4/12/2010 10:59:37 AM

NBC's Meet the Press with David Gregory will unveil a new set on May 2 to coincide with the show's long-planned launch in HD.

"It's an exciting time to be debuting a new Meet the Press set as we head into another important political year," said Gregory in a statement. "The new look reflects the ways in which the program is evolving while staying true to the core mission and traditions of the show."

MTP is the longest-running program on television. And the new set, a necessity of the HD conversion which picks up every defect -- on people and sets -- will hew toward tradition with the same yellow and blue in the MTP logo.

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/451347-_Meet_the_Press_to_Unveil_New_Set.phpTo be honest, that set is so old and cheap looking it doesn't take an HDTV to notice.

Well, don't have any screenshots but they showed off the new MTP set on the Today show just a few moments ago - it is definitely new. Few video walls, and lots of books. Has a very "glassy" look to it.

Hey this is great, but I hope that they remained focused on the meat and potatoes of the show. Please no more Erin Burnett on MTP, it's embarrassing.

I am watching it in HD right now looks good I like the new set. I also noticed right before that the weekend today show is also in HD now(I know it is weird that a show is in HD on the weekdays but isn't on the weekends). I liked the bit at the end that talked about the new set I cant belive that they havent updated the set in 14 years.

They already do. David Gregory is doing a great job.

I don't like the new set. That long divider has an "I'm on this side, you're on that side" look and feel. Why divide the entire set like that? Not good. Hopefully they will tinker with it over the next several weeks.

From where I watch, "Weekend Today" had been in HD along with "Weekday" Today since Today's gone HD a few years ago. The only reason I can think of is that some affiliates had been recording the feed in SD for later playback. But with improved gear, this problem should become less frequent.

PQ was superb. The new set looks great.

Thought the closeups of the guests were a little too close. Richardson's head looked gigantic. The way Gregory was framed seemed about the right distance. Not sure if I like the live background... neat to see people enjoying the sunny Sunday morning in the capital, but somewhat distracting.

URFloorMatt

I disagree. I like the use of live screens in the background. Really makes the set look more expansive than it is. Wish they had done that for WRC's local broadcast, since the studio they use appears only about half as large as this one.

I wonder if Nightly News, Dateline, and NBC News reports are going to get a graphics refresh to match up. This MTP package is much cleaner and more modern than Nightly News.

Here are some screen shots... WCSH in Portland, ME via Time Warner lousy cable captured on an HDHomeRun. While asking a question during the Charlie Crist interview, the camera caught David Gregory getting up to move to the other side of the set for the roundtable discussion.

The graphics remind me of two things: the news on our local O&O (WNBC) and MSNBC.

I didn't get to see this show at all(9 or 10 AM on a Sunday is waaay before I am awake ;)). But I did see the beginning of the show on Youtube. The graphics are nice, but that set is fugly as hell. I liked the old Meet The Press set much better. The shiney glass stuff is cliche, so is the translucent panels with the blue lighting behind it(which looks like it belongs in a Chinese restaurant). Simple is better. This garish abortion looks like it belongs on FOX News.
