I have noticed a Weird bluish purplish spot on my hitachi rear projection lcd screen. Its in the top right area of the screen, its faint but noticeable. Upon research and other comments in my other thread it appears to be a light engine issue. Is there a cheaper way to fix this? The part seems to be around $900 or more( which has left me literally shocked ). Some info I've found has stated this is a known defect but Hitachi will not admit it. Some have claimed to have been able to get Hitachi to give them the part for free. I don't know what is accurate and what isn't?

Seems like you did your research well. Everything you said is pretty much spot-on, oops sorry for the pun. Recommend you call Hitachi and try for the part.

Going to, but seeing as they are denying the defect I don't think I'll get lucky:(.

Not sure if its the light engine or projection lamp. Removed the project lamp and there was a small( tip of threading needle small ) spec of dust on the bulb, so I removed it. The blue haze remains but is lighter then before. Anyways I've uploaded some pictures so you guys can see what I'm talking about and hopefully confirm for me what the problem may be.

Well, it looks like either the blue lcd panel has some dust on it or it is failing. The best fix is replace the light engine or try open heart surgery... Pull the engine & expose the lcd module, take some canned air and spray down into the area, re-assemble and test. If that didn't work go deeper... Again pull the engine, this time completely remove the lcd module, using cotton swabs and something like lens cleaner swipe the lcds, re-assemble and test. Try googling for procedure to clean digital camera sensor, very similar process.

Is there anywhere online that has a diagram showing where the parts are located inside?

Better question. Which screws do I take out? The ones around the back of the screen or the ones in the very back? Please reply ASAP?

I suggest you think very hard before attempting anything like this on your own. Have you ever pulled an engine out of a car and put in new pistons and rings? Think of that only very tiny pieces and doing it in a clean room. There is very little chance it will work and very large chance you damage the Tv even worse than it its now. You can google and purchase a service manual for diagrams and disassembly procedures. Good Luck.

I have a site that shows me exactly what to do, my problem is I can't get the screen off. I took out all the screws but its connected somehow at the bottom and I don't want to force it off and break something. Any tips?

I have a site that shows me exactly what to do... Do what? Clean the lcd panels? Where's this?

...my problem is I can't get the screen off... The whole top of the Tv (screen, mirror, light box) lifts off, leaving just the chasis below. There are screws in the front and back holding the light box on.
