Is it beneficial to use HDMI Cabling for Front Projectors or Component Cable is enough?

I read from the manual of Yamaha Receivers that don't use more than 5 meters of HDMI cable. any comments on this?

Thanks

Yes you want HDMI. There have been many reports of much longer runs than 5 meters, My DVI cable to my projector is 10 meters.

Don't overpay, go to Monoprice.com. If you are building a new room and the ceiling is open, run a seriously big electrical conduit so that you can future proof for your cabling needs.

It depends on what you are going to do with the projector. I have planned on HDMI and component both just to have options. There are many here that have just run one cable to the projector (HDMI) and have had good results.

I have a 35 foot (approximatley 12 meter) HDMI cable and have not had any issues with the cable during testing. I think that much beyond 40-50 feet (15-17) meters is where you start to have some problems. Just make sure you get a quality cable from one of the forum sponsors such as Blue Jeans, Tartan, or Monoprice

Hope this helps and I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions.

Same here. You definitely want the HDMI if you're going to be playing blu-ray content or similar, so that should take priority. I also did a component run for lower-resolution gear such as a Wii, SD TiVo, VHS/Laserdisc, and so on; but these days you can get converters and switchers to run all that stuff over HDMI if you want.

Yeah, the HDMI run from my equipment rack to my day-to-day TV was originally 71 feet (three different pieces of cable plus couplers), and it was right on the edge of working. It was fine 99% of the time but would occasionally have problem spells where the TV would flicker every few seconds. I swapped out one of the sections to bring it all down to 66 feet, and that seems to have solved it. I also get the impression that some devices have stronger signals or are better at receiving weak signals than others.

Originally designed my setup with component connections, never thought about what new designs were coming, now I am finding a need to upgrade and will need to run HDMI, for my new projector.....wish I had planned ahead for the inevitible upgraditis disease....
