Hey everyone,
I have my HP laptop connected via HDMI to a Panasonic PT-53x54 1080i Rear Projection TV. It is cutting off the edges of the desktop on the TV. You cant see the task bar, scroll bars, and where to close the application. Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks,
Jon

Your HDTV was not designed to be a TV and not to be a PC monitor. It is ovescanning the inputs it is getting over HDMI by about 6% in order to emulate a standard CRT TV. Unless you have a way to disable the overscan or if it also has a VGA interface you will have to undercan the output you are sending it using the capabilites of your graphics card. The result, however, will be blurry small text since all scaling operaitons cause a loss or resolution since they either delete or invent pixel content.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running hdmi out to hdmi in on my Sony Kp-51ws520 1080i hd crt rptv with fairly good results. Did you lower the resolution of the HP via the control panel? I had better results doing this with the Vaio. By setting the slider control at the midway point (1184 x 666 resolution), backing it down from full resolution of 1600 x 900. My tv still clips off the very outside perimeter edges, but i can still see the task bar and mininize and/or close any window i want. Granted, text is a little fuzzy but if either of us wants clearer text to read, we need to get a 1080P LCD TV. :(
