I need to hide some pipes on my front wall. Would something like this work?

they will be 45 degrees..

is this considered a bass trap and/or a bad idea? Should I just build a square sofit?

also, for the record, this is an older pic with some mspaint skills The wood paneling is all down..

what are the disadvantages to just building this and dry walling it.. and not using acoustical treatments?

I guess we need to understand the overall plans for this room to appreciate what you are trying to accomplish. Bass traps need to be filled with an appropriate insulation and covered with a somewhat acoustically transparent material like fabric.

If where you drew the ride lines is your future screen wall you certainly could design something to hide the pipes that ties into your overall theater design. Like a large curved marquee over the screen for example. Square works, So does the angled look you designed.

Show us a picture of these pipes you are trying to hide.

Hmmmm...I get where everybody's going with this, and having a more comprehensive idea of what you're doing with the room would help, but that is a very common place to put a bass trap in lots of rooms. It would have to be a panel absorber though, not a corner filling design, and there are other alternatives in terms of covering up unsightly plumbing.

It looks like you already have it framed for ACT, which would be fine.

I'm planning on drywalling it.

I'm planning on drywalling it.

That'll work too, of course. Did you have plans for treatment (especially bass trapping) in other places? If so, then you may not need it here at all.
