Anyone catch this recently?

How did Cary Grant's striped shirt at the beginning of the movie look on your set? It was a black shirt with very thin horizontal white stripes, gave off a very shimmery look when he was moving. I'd hoped that HD would completely eliminate this phenomenon. However, this is the first time I've seen this problem in the 14 months I've had my TV, so it does seem much better than SD sets handled line patterns. (Sony 52W3000)

Also, very good movie that I hadn't seen in a LONG time.

On my JVC RS20, with a Carada 88" BW screen, I had the same problem with his striped shirt. Overall I couldn't believe how good this movie looked, the lighting and color were spectacular. It only fell a bit short when the image seemed to lose focus on some of the long shots. Such as the panoramic views of the car chase. Still, this was the first time I've seen this film from start to finish and it was a real treat.

They really don't make'em that that anymore!

Yep, this was a favorite of mine I had saved a few months back - looked at this and saw the same thing. But the overwhelmingly gorgeous pic otherwise helped me ignore it. :)

I don't think there's much we can do about it since we're watching a 1080i source.

I can easily overlook the problem since I think Grace Kelly circa mid-1950s was the most beautiful woman alive.

I caught it during last Sunday night's premiere. Cary's stripped short looked fine on my Olevia 747i HDTV set but I blame the Realta HQV chip on the TV for de-interlacing the 1080i broadcat signal so damn well into my panel's 1920x1080 rez. :)

To experience this flick for the first time and in high-definition was all I needed to go WOW!!! several times over. The hues on the flowers, the Riviera beaches, Cary Grant's tanned skin (eat your heart out George Hamilton! :p), the green-lit tiles on the rooftops, Grace Kelly's smile, Hitch's more-obvious-than-usual cameo... this 54 year-old flick looks like it was shot last year on IMAX, it's that pretty. Which is good because slick and suave are in, darkness and mystery are out in this Hitch-helmed lark of a travelogue adventure. Loved Jessie Royce Landis (she practically pushes her half-Grant's-age daughter into the leading man's arms) and John Williams (as the most honest insurance agent in movie history) who provide solid, often hilarious supporting work. The moment Grace Kelly and Cary Grant meet and start flirting though ('breast or leg?') it's their movie. The chemistry between these two is the real deal and everything else (who the new thief is and why try to get Grant into trouble) become secondary to these two kissing at the end and living happily ever after. So what if Grant is old-enough to be Kelly's father? Even a hetero guy like myself can admit, secure enough in my manhood, that Cary fills a swimming trunk better than most of us dress for an evening date.

Grace didn't stand a chance against Grant's star magnetism the moment their two characters meet. That, more than the mystery behind who is doing the jewel heists, is the real reason "To Catch A Thief" has endured.
