So I have a 19" rack and I've rack mounted most of my AV equipment including some IPC (htpc and storage box).

Most of my stuff have at least 1U in between.

But my question is that:

I have a russound cam6.6 rackmounted. I want to rackmount a 4U IPC case above the russound. Can I stack it immediately above it or do I need keep the 1U space (for ventilation)?

The big concern is where ventilation is at. If something has top/bottom ventilation you definitely don't want to block that.
The other consideration is what the item its against is made of, and what kind of heat it produces. You can effectively use a component that doesn't produce much heat as a heatsink for something that does.
Here is a good white paper by Middle Atlantic

Hope this helps.

P.S. Be sure to post pics! I love seeing home theatre racks, not enough people do them!
