for my family room.
I moved into my current home last spring, and had my handy-man / carpenter rip out the existing "entertainment center" built-ins. He designed and built a new entertainment center into the existing space which fit my equipment. Since I'm divorced, the family room my is "man cave".
I'm currently viewing a two year-old 52" Sharp Aquos panel, IIRC a LC52D62U. I'm very pleased with it for the most part, but would prefer a larger panel (and newer technology). I've just finished getting my spare bedroom re-done into a study / play room for my daughter, so now I could move the 52" Aquos in there for her to enjoy (lucky girl!).
The space in my family room will accommodate a 63" to 65" panel, and I'd like to fill most of that space. Even though I like plasma displays, I'm uncertain if one would work very well in my FR, as I have a wall of windows on the wall left of my EC. Granted, the wall of windows faces NNE, and I don't ever get direct sunlight through those windows. However, the room is receives quite a bit of ambient light until very late in the afternoon. I would hate to be viewing the (reflected) wall behind me during daytime viewing, LOL!
I'm also concerned about off-axis viewing. My recliner is positioned directly in front of the panel, but my daughter and guests will be sitting somewhat off-axis to the right and left of the screen. Also, the bottom of the panel rests on a shelf which is approximately 60" above the floor. I've read that quite a few new LCD panels have terrible off-axis PQ. Off-axis "washout" is NOT an issue with my current Aquos panel.
As far as my sources, I have a Comcast HD DVR, A Sony 400-disc DVD changer and a Sony 2000ES BluRay player. All routed through a Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver.
I'd like to upgrade within the next 3-12 months.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.
