My home is prewired with component wires. Component behind the tv above the fireplace and component coming out of the wall near my entertainment rack.
I have 3 devices I want hooked up to the receiver then to the tv via the receiver. The devices are HD cable box/xbox 360/Wii.
My question is this. I need to buy a new receiver and I need to know if I hook up the devices with HDMI and component wires will the receiver be able to send the signals to my tv via component wires? I hope this makes sense.
Please help and advise which receiver would be able to do this. I have been looking at the Denon line lately but I am not brand loyal. My previous receiver was a Harmon/Kardon 135 and didn't have HDMI and only 2 component in's. So, I had to use a switcher to be able to gook up everything. I prefer not to have to use a switcher.
Thanks for the help.
Dan

I'll try to help. There are many receivers that will upconvert component, composite, and svideo to HDMI. I am not aware of a receiver that will downconvert. Typically HDMI stays HDMI due to copy protection protocol. You should be able to connect all of your devices via component and upconvert to the one cable HDMI solution. So HDMI stays HDMI component will stay component (as in you application) or can be converted to HDMI. All of your sources except the Wii should be able to go 720p or 1080i over component cables and you will experience the same picture as if you were using HDMI.

I hope this helps, and welcome to the forum. FYI it is not unusual to have a lot more than thirty views and not one post, just the way it works around here.

We all look and think about answers, but to actually voice an opinion takes a lot of guts! I too wired all of my theater with component connections, only to now discover HDMI is the new way to go! I think I'll wait for the next generation, wireless connections!!!!
