I am new here, and would like to get some help.
we just bought a new house, we are going to set up our projector & flat screen in the living room.
I would like to see some examples of what people have done in this situation (not a dedicated basement).
the room size is 5.8*3.8 meters.

There are no rules so just be creative with a focus on keeping things simple.

Our solution was to use a shelf for the projector and we hung a fixed Da-lite screen directly across the room from the projector - in our case the screen covers a large window - since we don't often peer out or in windows this was not a problem and the screen (72X96) slightly over covers the window area which blocks all sunlight and so solves another problem.

Going the other way in the room we have a 56in HD television and furniture arranged so one can sit and watch tv but when it's time to lower the lights and enjoy a Theater sized visual experience one can also sit comfortably and watch the big screen.

We had to buy a couple of simple stands for the front left and right surround speakers for Theater use and, of course, since lows are not directional the sub can go anywhere and still be effective.

We're not fancy nor pretentious people so if a wire or two is visible we don't care.

Main thing is get the screen and projector up and running so you and you family and friends won't be stuck watching some dinky little television!

Currently we are thinking of a pull down screen (which i own) going down over the flat screen TV.
i cannot set the projector on a shelf because the room's length is 5.8 meters which is to long for projecting, i will have to place the projector something like 4.7 meters from the screen.
also, i would like to know which solution did any of you use for the cables (there is no such preparation in the house currently - i will have to use cast or dig in tunnels).
also i am not sure where to place all the amplification and streamer, in the front, the rear or sideway.

I have a similiar setup to imjay, here's some pictures during installation, room is 12feet x 30feet including the dinning area/poker table

I'm going for a pull up screen and table mount. I just string the hdmi cable across the floor when in use. Might look silly but its the best solution I could find for myself. If I didn't have vaulted ceilings I would definitely go pull down in front of the flat screen. Previous setup would cover the door way into the kitchen and we had to roll it up every time we needed refreshments.

This is what I did. I'm still working on getting it all cleaned up however.
