I believe that the best way to hook up an older DVD player (Philips DVD 795SA) to a brand new high-end Receiver (Denon AVR-3808CI) is with an Optical Cable (the DVD player is not HDMI). If this is true, which is the best Optical Cable to buy? Thanks.:)

I have never heard there was any difference in optical cable quality. So it shouldn't matter.

I couldn't find anything on your player. Does it have a coaxial digital audio output? It is a much better connection, no signal leaks and a rock solid larger surface contact area than an optical cable connection.

Wow, that's weird that you couldn't find anything on the DVD Player (I haven't even Googled it myself).......Probably because it's about 3 or 4 years old. Yes, it does have a coaxial digital audio output. I will use that to hook up to my Denon Receiver if that is a much better connection. Thanks Electrico.....

Mr. lordpuffer:
Sir, I don't post any lies, thank you. It is also evident that I know more about Home Theater than you do. Again WHY should I lie? When I don't know I ask, period. I did that, thank you.

Regarding finding any information about your Philips DVD-795SA I looked it up on this site, Ebay, Best Buy and Google to no avail. I did NOT think of checking the Philips site itself. In retrospect I should have. You have a computer research my statement. I asked the same question to a few Home Theater experts and I shared that with you., thank you.

Electrico....You must have misunderstood me......I wasn't at all implying that you posted a lie....I'm very sorry if you thought that....I must have communicated my thoughts poorly.

Thank you for your help, and believe me, I'm sorry if you thought I was offending you. I greatly appreciate your help.:)

For what is worth I went to www.usa.philips.com/ and I finally found the Philips DVD795SA. I'd wished I had done that.
