Have you tried doing a factory reset?
Have you tried plugging it in else where (to see if you have a ground fault)?
Have you tried unplugging all the inputs?
Is it on a UPC/battery backup unit, and if so have you unplugged it from that and tried it directly in the mains?
Have you talked to Samsung?
Does it need a new bulb?
Does it need a new CW?
Does it need new balast?
If it's humming all the time, then I'd think that a transformer is going. But don't quote me on that.
BTW, what have you tried?

Have you checked the lights on the front of the TV and compared them to their descriptions in your Samsun user's manual.
There should not be any sound coming from your TV when it is in standby "off" after the cooling fan for the bulb has turned off.

I have called samsung only to be told to contact a local repair shop with my issue who ofcourse naturally wants 110 bux to tell me whats wrong with it. I have taken out the bulb housing and inspected it..it looks okay. no lites are coming on in the front except the green "Lamp" light...but as i said the humming persists even with the tv off and only plugged in...??????????? Clueless

Isn't there a common ballast/starter failure issue with these sets? I thought I read something about that. I would search the rear projection forums using the word "ballast" to see what comes up.

There is series of events before the lamp fires that you can listen for-
Relay clicks (clickity)
Color wheel spins (high speed whirr)
Ballast fires (tick tick tick)
Usually when there are complaints of constant humming noise it points directly to failing colorwheel.

The OP's statement that the humming even occurs with the set is turned off and is therfore in standby is what has me baffled. Many years ago a bad power transformer could emit a humming sound but I certainly would not to be a problem nowadays.

Probably because the Tv is stuck in a loop trying to startup but can't because the colorwheel never reaches full speed.
