While playing with the BP59-00125A remote for Samsung's 2007 HL-T DLP I noticed it has ten keys not present on the HLxxA650 remote (BN59-00673A). This remote works with the A650 and so the extra keys.

Since I use a Sony RM-VL610 learning remote to control my home theater components I used its learning function to add four keystrokes: Sleep, P.Mode, S.Mode and HDMI. These functions are available in the user menus but not as direct keystrokes unless you use the BP59-00125A remote. If the RM-VL610 had had more than 50 learning keys I could have added: Antenna, Still, SRS, ADD/DEL, Game and 3D.

My son-in-law has the LN52A630 LCD which also uses the BN59-00673A remote and it responded to the extra keystrokes, too. I assume the HL61A750 would as well.

Anyway, I thought this was interesting and useful. I really like the HDMI key since it toggles through the HDMI ports and the TV tuner which is much faster than the source key.

If you have access to remotes similar to the one that came with your set it's not a bad idea to see if you can gain new direct functions. Especially if you have a lower or midrange model and can try the remote for a similar high end model.

One caveat, it's possible a foreign keystroke could play havoc with your set so try this at your own risk!
