I have a 2002 Sony (not positive of the model number as I don't have the manual in front of me) but I figure the problem will require the same fix no matter the model number. The red on the screen is off to the right about 6-7 inches and gives the tv almost a 3d look to it. I have looked at some previous posts and it sounds like there is a problem with the convergence board rather than the gun. Is that the case here? The other poster referenced a Mitsubishi and I don't know much (actually I don't know anything) about tv repairs and was wondering if this would apply to a sony or if something needs to be replaced. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Sony RP's are notorious for convergence failures. Most likely you'll need to replace the two convergence ICs and a pigtail fuse.
