o.k. so this is my first time posting, I have searched around, this is a great site, with lots of knowledge. So here is my situation. I have a 2007 samsung hls 6187w and it was working great, I love the picture. So, my extended warranty was almost up so I thought the picture looked a little dark so I called to have a new bulb put in. The technician came out and replaced it. Great! the picture was bright and clear, then, about 1 1/2 weeks after the new bulb was installed, we turned the tv off, and then within a minute or so we turned it back on and heard a small pop and no picture or sound....
we have a red temp/standby led on when power is off, and when we power up we get a green lamp indicator on the panel? So, we called the Tech back out and he looked at it and said the bulb is still good, though the front panel indicates that it is bad. he said it is not lighting the bulb, so he thinks it is the light engine. I have read a few posts on here and I am a bit skeptical that it is the LE, but what do I know, I build cabinets for a living. please give me suggestions. Ballast? new bulb? new technician???

There is series of events before the lamp fires that you can listen for-
Relay clicks (clickity)
Color wheel spins (high speed whirr)
Ballast fires (tick tick tick)

yes, and the tech did listen and did not hear balast firing or color wheel spinning. Is there a reset? I will try to listen myself, should I take the back cover off and hold the safety switch down?

My Samsnung HLP had the same symtom about two months ago, just a red standby indicator which is not documented in the user's manual.
Solution, and I don't know why, was to unplug the set from the wall for about 20 minutes and then plug it back in. It has worked fine ever since.

yes, and the tech did listen and did not hear balast firing or color wheel spinning... Color wheel is frozen or DMD is not telling the colorwheel to spin up. Should pull colorwheel and inspect for shattered or locked-up. If not then DMD (which can be almost as much $ as light engine).
