Anyone else waiting on this?

I think it'll be superior to the Edge, and kinda leaning towards this for my SD/HD viewing.

I use a Pioneer Pro141 now, but would like to enhance SD tv performance.
This Gefen Scaler pro should be available at the end of the month...

For $899 is there anything that might rivial this Gefen unit?

this thing has been promised to be available at the end of the month for the past 14 months I think

what makes you think this will be superior to the Edge? Ive had my share of Video Processors and the Edge for me is the best by far and for the price simply cant be beat

+1

The Gefen uses the very well known Reon HQV chip, so there will be no surprises in its performance and capabilities IF it is properly implemented.

Add the vapor-ware aspect, constant delays, and broken promises on relaese dates, and the Gefen unit does not impress -- at least not at the expected price point.

Yes; and it's (http://www.anchorbaytech.com/dvdo_edge/) MSRP is $100 less, works very well, uses newer technology (http://www.anchorbaytech.com/products/semiconductors/abt2010.php), has more inputs, and you can actually buy one today. ;)

Of course, a Pioneer Pro141 has pretty good internal processing already, so there is less of a potential improvement with an external VP compared with lessor displays.

Yes, but not holding my breath. . . .

BTW, there is already an open thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1088893) on this device. (Of course, it's not very active, since there has been no news.)

Nope.

It would have been a killer unit for $899 MSRP 18 months ago, but today it would have to be extremely inexpensive for viability. IMHO, Gefen really missed their window of opportunity. :(

Given that this unit is apparently a re-badge of an existing product, and the interim sale (http://www.idt.com/?id=5181) of Silicon Optix (HQV), I have to wonder if the delay to market is permanent?

Today, $900 is just too much for two HDMI plus two analog ports, with god-knows-what kind of flaky support. (I wonder about the support, since as a re-badge, all issues will probably have to go back to Cypress for resolution.)

I joked a while back that Gefen had dropped the product and forgotten to tell the world. At this point, If I were Gefen, out of embarrassment I'd quietly remove the product from the website and hope everyone just forgot about it.

However, in reality, I do hope that it arrives, that it works really well and that it sells for less than $500. (I tried the Edge for $700 (pre-order price) and returned it.)

Just noticed this.
AFAIK, it uses the Realta, the Reon's (programmable) big brother. (Of course, if it's never released, this is academic.)

Thanks, great catch. :)
