Looking for Samsung HLS5679W to buy for parts to salvage. This is a phased out model and some of the parts such as driver led assy are not supported anymore by samsung or any of their parts supplier. If anyone out there has a dead tv of this model and lives in the bay area, california, and willing to sell please reply. Thanks. :o

do you know if there is sound coming out of the speaker and a very dim image on the screen if a movie is being played?

Hi. Sorry to bump an old thread.

Available: 4yr old Samsung DLP LED:
Model: HL-85679W
ModelCode: HLS5679WX/XAA
S/N: B18C3CKL900009F
Version: REO1
Type: CN56L8
DateManuf: Sept 2006
ChassisNo: L66B
VendorID: 000005

I did the classic 6-cap power supply fix at about 1.5years.

Disclaimer of condition:
Display problem. Screen flicker.
After about 2 minutes, as unit warms up, blue/green flickering bars progress upwards from bottom.
These proceed over time almost to top.
They resemble the level-bars on a graphic equalizer.
Disassembled entire set looking for visible problems on all electronics (blown caps, etc.) - nothing.
Reassembled, reseating all connectors - problem persists.
Tried isolating problem at internal DVI cable connection, but I lack adequate equipment.
Service menu - solid color screens display perfectly - no flicker or bars.
Service menu - vertical flip - bars flip to top.
These last 2 are clues if you start with the block diagram of the electronics.
I think it's one of the large PCB boards, not the end hardware.
Probably one of the boards on the internal DVI connection. Not sure which one though.
The successful color diagnostic screens indicate all 3 LEDs are working perfectly.
I suspect a cold-solder or heat-related-memory-chip problem on one of the PCBs.
Since the PCBs are probable replaced as a unit, and probably cost $300+, repair is economically infeasible.
Plus, given the problem history of this set, something else will probably fail soon.

Sound is perfect. All inputs work AFAIK. I have used:
Both HDMIs; HiDef Component; VGA; USB for memory stick; Coax; RWY inputs. All OK.
Case is in good shape.
I'm in Boston MA area.

There you have it. I'm willing to disassemble and send subcomponents.
As for me, I'm returning to Toshiba.
Let me know if you're interested.
