Guys, I own a Pioneer Elite 730HDi that I'm about to phase out for a different set. The TV has a solid picture but likely could use new video cards (this model has a defect that resulted in their video cards going bad over time).

So given all of this, what should I do with the set? Part of me is thinking of just moving it to my basement but it's HEAVY and at 64" that'll be no small task.

I thought about selling it but what could I really expect to get for a set like this that would make it worth the trouble?

I just can't fathom putting it out on the curb as trash!

Thoughts?

I just donated an older Pioneer Elite non HD set to the Salvation Army. They came to my house and picked it up. No other organization would do this in my area. I tried selling it on Craigslist for 3 months with no bites. You could try that first. Being an HD ready set with HDMI inputs make it more attractive. Post over on the "Don't Dump Your CRT RPTV" thread. Somebody there might be interested.

In my area I've seen the same sellers with the same sets trying month after month asking for $1000-1500 for your size set. Fact is most folks dont want to pay that much when they can get a new set for not a whole lot more. Not to mention smaller case and lighter weight for the same screen size.

If it were me selling the set and I wanted to get rid of it I'd put it on craigslist, ask for 400 and take 300.

That was my thinking. I'm hoping $500 could be possible but it's not a must.

Well, if your set needs repairs to make it watchable, or you know its on its way to a failure, I'm sure it would be expensive, to fix, if a tech would be willing to repair it at all. Even a service call and travel time to give you an estimate on repairs and charges. So someone looking at your set has to weigh that in too. But if it were me, I would put the pro's and con's about the set upfront in my ad. No surprises.......

Of course the Pioneer Elites have a good reputation here for performance so you never know........
