Happily had this TV for 6.5 years - get it calibrated every 2 years. My calibrator - Gregg Lowen -told me one problem with my particular TV is Magic Focus doesn't work. Said it happens on % of this model mine seems to be one of them. May be irrelevant to problem described below.
Last night - upper left TV quadrant showed red and green lights slanting down and to left - looks like the actors on left side of picture are wearing pink/red or lime green hats -
Any ideas what is happening and how to address? I will have someone come out to look at it but appreciate any comments here- thank you in advance for taking the time to read and/ or comment.

Nice run 6 years..
Good luck with the repairs
I know - I was very happy and would still like to salvage it for basement - with 3 teenagers, their x-box etc.

Post pictures.
Are menus affected?
Are all inputs affected?
All inputs affected. if picture has a scrawl or banner across top = banner gets distorted and droops down at angle slanting right to left and the angles separate into red and green colors.
Distortion effect is much less on close-ups but maximizes when picture goes to a long shot. For example when 2 people are talking on screen the effect is at max - but when they go to a close-up of one of them the effect is minimized but still there,

Without a picture, I'd say it's convergence IC failure. See link in my signature-
Thank you for the very informative link. One thing I noticed in the link was a caution to not continue to run the TV until the failed IC has been remedied - correct?
My repair guy noted that the IC's in my unit had 2 different numbers which he was surprised to see - asked me if I had any work done previously and I noted the calibrations - I didn't think the calibrator would have swapped out an integrated IC without telling me but what do I know? He also noted that one of the iC's seemed to run at an appreciably hotter temp than the other - ??
Anyway the plan is for the repair tech to id the right part #'s from Hitachi's website - he says he can't get anyone at H to answer a phone - order the IC's install and re-align the convergence.
I wish I would have asked about whether it's OK to run the TV in the interim.

...I wish I would have asked about whether it's OK to run the TV in the interim. It may just eventually blow a small fuse (not a biggie), at which point the Tv won't turn on (until repaired).
