My ceiling has a few exposed beams and I'm having trouble deciding where to mount the projector.

Here are the beams I'm dealing with. They are roughly 10" high (off an 8' ceiling).

Looking towards the screen wall they look like this:

They are going to be covered with plasterboard, but I can frame out the insides prior so a mount can be installed.

Would you recommend mounting the PJ under a beam, or behind or in front of the beam with a longer mount?

I guess another option is to wall mount or ceiling mount at the back of the room:

Its a bit hard to tell from the picture, but that last part of the ceiling slants down towards the window.

What would everyone recommend?

Do you know what projector yet?

We sort of need to know the desired screen size and throw distances to the different possible mounting postions.

Sorry - should have mentioned. 100" screen from an Epson 720. The zoom should let me be pretty flexible?

I have that PJ and mounted mine about 16 1/2 feet from the screen and have a maxed out zoom 150" 16:9 image. However, a lot of folks would frame out a couple of those cavities between the beams to allow for future PJ upgrades that require different placement.

I'm not sure exactly how much flexibility you might need, but if you plan for it and build it now you won't be kicking yourself in the future when that new 6480p  requires a closer or further mount.

When I got into this crazy hobby I realized that I would be upgrading my PJ every couple of years. Now, I'm guessing I'll never go more than two years without an upgrade. I'm at 14 months on the Epson and itching to move up. ;)

Hi Audixium,

Thanks for the feedback.

That's exactly what we did. We framed out the cavity in the 2nd of the beams (the front one is only a few metres from the screen) and put a powerpoint behind the beam.
