Elegy on UK Blu Ray: 1080i50Hz. And going by the stills an SD upcon or by other means limited to about SD detail.

Better wait for US Sony release (if there is any).
I rented this on Blu-ray from Netflix, but I believe the disc had "for rental only" stamped on it.

After sampling the disk I'm afraid it's indeed an upconvert or has been low pass filtered to PAL detail. Looks like a superbit DVD on steroids. :D From Blu Ray we expect better.
It's not an upconvert, it's too good for that, but it looks filtered. May be intended, American Gangster for example looks very similar.

I'm not convinced at all that this is the intended look in HD. End credits have SD sharpness, for example. The print I saw did not look like this. This is a 35mm production.
Hmm, I watched the disc from Netflix and thought it looked rather nice, with satisfying sharpness. I didn't see the film theatrically, so my ability to pass judgment is limited.
It's an excellent film, regardless. Penelope Cruz was much better here than in VICKI CRISTINA BARCELONA.
