Hi everybody, I'm new in the forum and also new in the DVR world.

I'm living in costa rica right now, and i just pourchase cable tv from AMNET.

They gave to me the dvr DCT6208 motorola, and i'm supposed to watch HD channels.
My television is a HD ready Plasma Panasonic 42PX80.
When I'm on a HD channel i press INFO on the tv remote and it says that it is in 480i.
I'm using the component video output, so i'm suppose to watch a better quality signal.

Now, the question is: What is wrong? The AMNET signal, or the motorola DVR?
If I buy, for example, the Tivo TCD652160 DVR, would be the quality better?

Turn the box off, then press menu. Make sure you've selected 720p or 1080i output.

but the problem still the same, it doesnt look like en HD. my dvd player looks the same.

how can i do to know the real resolucion signal that AMNET is giving?

I'm not sure the TiVo even supports Costa Rica. Picture quality may be slightly better with the TivoHD; it wouldn't be a major difference.

Keep in mind that local HD networks like ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC offer most of their high-definition programming during primetime hours, i.e. 8-11pm. If the programming is not 16:9 widescreen, then it is not HD.

i selected 1080i and the images are very good now. its depend too on what are they showing. until now, in the same hd channel, one movie was very bad and the other was very good.

They download their own guide data via Internet servers. This is typically better than what the cable company provides...but I don't think it is available in Costa Rica.

TiVo and Moxi get their guide information from Tribune Media. Do you see any available listings for Costa Rica on the free version of the Tribune site (http://www.zap2it.com)?
