He already has a 2006 58" Panasonic plasma at home and he digs it.

We were looking at the new G10 series Panny's, and last years Samsung 550 series.

The price is not much different which is strange, but which would you recommend?

I've heard only high praise for last years 550 series Sammys, but I hear a lot of negative comments about the G10 series color issues.

I already know Panny has Samsung beat in regards to black levels, but is there any other reasons why I should go Panny over the Sammy?

Samsung on the other hand is a really sleazy and underhanded corrupt company that is run like a criminal empire, steals other brands' technology, has poor customer service and poor parts availability, and their TVs aren't as reliable. Google "Samsung Korea Corruption Investigation" and you'll see lots of interesting articles. They're so ingrained into the Korean economy that the government is scared to do anything about it.

Here's one of many articles:

I wouldn't buy another Samsung if they were 50% off

You might also consider the Pioneer KURO's, if you can still find one. They are often deeply discounted now, and Pioneer servie is really first-rate.
