I had my mac mini initially connected to my tv via a dvi to dvi cable (since my tv had dvi in) showing at 1080p. the resolution was spotless and pristine at 1920x1080. Due to changing my setup, i had to switch to connecting my mac mini to a monoprice hdmi 4x1 switch via a dvi to hdmi cable. after i did that i started noticing horizontal lines that would for brief periods appear on screen. by brief i mean not permanent at all, every little while i'd get a full horizontal line flicker on and off the screen. this flickering was not localized to a part of the tv but all over screen at different times. i have a sharp 42 inch 1080p tv.
i recently had to reduce the resolution on my tv since i put it further from my couch and 1080p was too small, so i switched to another resolution (cant remember which one right now). nonetheless the picture fit perfectly everything was fine, except now those lines have started appearning more frequently and are more obvious. im guessing its not that the line sare more frequent, just that with the lower resolution the lines are larger and thus more obvious. its getting to becoming a nuisance now since this happens constantly.
does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? is this the hdmi switch, hdmi cable or some incompatibility with mac mini and the switch. ive tried different cables and different ports on the switch. i was under the impression hdmi either works or not, and so when it works it shows up perfectly. so i would expect this to either not play nice at all, but if its working, then it should work flawlessly. anyone hve any ideas that could help me with this?
