Still no confirmation of release date on amazon.com, however amazon.co.uk lists the Mad Men Season 2 BD for release on July 13, 2009, and if the past is anything to go by, the U.S. release should be around (if not slightly before) that date.

Loved season 1 (saw it for the 1st time on Blu-Ray) both for it's production quality and visual splendor, and have been impatiently awaiting season 2 - resisting the urge to (i) purchase low res version from iTunes, or catch mid season reruns on AMC

I've been waiting very patiently doing my best not to watch reapeats of dark, grainy, cropped AMC versions. The HD of season one is light-years better than broadcast. Can't wait!

It's been officially announced (oddly enough, via Facebook) for release on July 14. Here's the details via TVShowsOnDVD:It's been over a month since we broke the news that Mad Men - Season 2 would be scheduled to arrive on both DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc on July 7th. That information came from a pre-order listing at Barnes & Noble's online store, but the official announcement from Lionsgate hadn't been made at the time. Now it has, and at Facebook (free registration required), of all places! There the studio has let us know that the official, finalized release date will be July 14th, a week later than the previously reported schedule. Bonus material is listed as follows:

* Audio commentaries with cast and crew on all 13 episodes
* "Birth of an Independent Woman, Part 1 and Part 2" - from housewives to working women, this featurette examines the rise of female independence in the Mad Men era
* "An Era of Style" - this featurette explores the fashion of the 1960's and its lasting influence on designers today
* "Time Capsule" - interactive featurettes paying homage to historical events of the 1960's and the daring generation that lived through them

Pricing, according to pre-order listings at Amazon (which still do not have the date or other details on them, at least as of this writing) is $49.98 SRP on the DVD, and $49.99 SRP on the high-def Blu-ray Disc version. Package art for each version is shown below. Our thanks to reader Seth B. Doe for being the first to tip us off about the Facebook info!http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mad-Men-Season-2/11728

Coincidentally, more info was just posted at TVShowsOnDVD:This past Friday we reported about Lionsgate's official announcement, exclusively on Facebook, for the July 14th release of Mad Men - Season 2 on DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc. At the time the date, cost, package art (seen again below) and extras were all covered. But now the studio has provided retailers with some additional bits of information, especially as regards to the specs.

The 13-episode set will officially run 611 minutes long on both formats, with 4 discs included on the DVD version, while the same content - including the bonus commentaries and featurettes - will fit on 3 discs in the Blu-ray set. The BD version features high definition 1080p widescreen video, English 5.1 DTS HD audio, and subtitles in English and Spanish. The standard DVD version will have anamorphic widescreen video, English Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, subtitles in English and Spanish, and is closed captioned for the hearing impaired. The packaging for both versions is described as being "available as a limited-edition...sleek shirt box with see-through window."http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mad-Men-Season-2/11748

$49.98 SRP on the DVD, and $49.99 SRP on the high-def Blu-ray Disc version

I am *so* sick of the studios sticking it to us on the BD versions.

Don't they realize that we're in a recession, and BD will never catch on if it's priced at a premium?!?

P.S. BD is the only way to watch this show--pure gold. It's worth the extra cost.

:D It's as if the studio was contractually obligated to price the BD higher than the DVD.

Love this series although I have not watched any of S2 since the one week last summer I spent watching season 1 on Blu-ray. I'll likely do the same again this summer with season 2. TV Shows on Blu are really nice IMO. I can watch it all in the best quality available on my own time. If I want to watch 5 episodes in 1 day I can.

With the upcoming 25% off sale (July 17-24), this should be available at Deep Discount (http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=69476812) for about $23.17.

I stopped reading it because it was a little too spoiler for me. I don't want to know a single thing about season two before I start watching it. Since my dad lived that life (fake family, trophy wife, downtown mistress, money = success), I almost think I know what will happen.

I have a video skip at the 6:03 mark of Episode 3. The counter keeps moving but the video and audio stop. I tried cleaning the disk but it didn't help.

Can others please post as to whether your disk is playing correctly?

Thanks.

No skip or problems with anything at that point with my copy. Just to be sure I'm on the same page as you, this is the scene when Harry Crane is about to open Ken Cosgrove's paycheck.

Yep that's the scene. Sounds like it's just my disks so I'll return it.

Thanks for checking.

I've watched the first 2 discs and am thoroughly enjoying the set. My only criticism is the popup menu. When you select it, the viewing window shrinks (kind of like some of Disney's releases), the menu options appear at the bottom and a background image appears. The background image is the problem. It is supposed to look like a wall with a wood veneer with the words "Sterling-Cooper" at the top, but the letters have some major issues and appear really low rez.

In all fairness though this could just be my player (Samsung 1500) which also has some initial issues displaying the menus (when the main screen appears the black bar at the bottom is chopped into chunks surrounding the options although this quickly resolves itself) and it had trouble with the main menu of Ghostbusters (very choppy, not a disc issue as it worked on my parents Sony S350) and some of the subtitles for Akira (randomly parts would disappear).

So does anyone else have this issue (same player or otherwise)? Or is it just my player?

BTW I also liked the Clorox ad on the first disc.

Menu images look fine on my panny...

I really like this set on blu-ray. I watched the first season on dvd and think the blu-ray is vastly superior on such a well-designed period piece. I love all the textures, knick-knacks, fabrics, props, even the hairstyles, all really come to life with the added detail. Sets like the Drapers' kitchen are alive with the flotsam and jetsam of the early '60s. This isn't material with loud explosions or sweeping panoramas, but it benefits so far more from the blu-ray than I ever would have thought having seen it first on sd tv. (Honestly, the care the production designers put into the show is hardly at all discernible on sd tv.)

I think I am going to have to rewatch the first season on blu-ray, too.

Aligning the storyline with the dates of historical events in 1962 (man, there were a lot of them) was the kind of brilliant and gutsy writing that few shows would dare to do. The whole Madison Avenue lifestyle was practically forgotten by my generations after the 60's and 70's. I've actually learned a lot about how my parents were influenced by watching this show.

The only complaints about the Blu-ray I have are there are one or two cases of patterned fabric flashing. That happens when the quantization of compression changes but that shouldn't be happening on a Blu-ray disc. Also the interactive historical perspective extra on the last disc is really slow. Once I select an episode on my Panasonic BD35, it takes about ten seconds before its menu shows up.

I can play the first disc in the set but can't get the second or third ones to work on my machine, a Samsung BD-P1400. They display the red progress bar for loading the disc's code, but freeze before actually playing the Lionsgate logo. I'll try for a replacement from Amazon.

I have the same issue with my 1400, plus 3rd disc was cracked from Net Flix.
Had to play disc 2 and 3 with PS3, disc 3 had some freeze skip issues with one episode due to small crack. Season one loads faster and properly with my 1400.

Count your blessings! DirecTV doesn't even offer AMCHD and has no plan to. When I watch Season 3 it'll have to be in 4:3 SD.

Topic? I have the S2 Blu-Rays and they look great so far. The first episode, "For Those Who Think Young," seems to show off the PQ the best, but Bobbie's gold dress in episode 5 is demo material in itself.

This is definitely a feminist show. Few shows I know of have ever shown how much women were treated like objects in the not-so-distant past. A long-time friend's mother-in-law who worked in Los Angeles in this time period (and whose husband was a writer for television and the movies) said that the picture Mad Men paints of men vs.women is absolutely spot on.

I've only watched two episodes, but it looks as if the first season was just preparing us for getting down to serious business in season 2.

The first season had a great interview with a guy who worked in the advertising industry at the time. He said the Mad Men workplace environment was very accurate. It was kind of like a fraternity house. They goofed off and took three martini lunches because their jobs didn't require much work. The difference in pay between management and the employees who did most of the work is really surprising.

My disc 2 has what appears to be a small bubble on the edge of the disc, and thus skips all over the place and is unwatchable. :( I already contacted both Deep Discount and Lionsgate so hopefully they will resolve this problem soon. Does your player support BD Live and if so, have you tried turning it off in the settings? WOW am I glad I found this thread..I thought I was losing it. I have the Samsung HT-BD2T and had the same problem. Disc 1 of Mad Men season two would play fine (most of the time). Disc 2 and Disc 3 had major problems with loading, and if they loaded would freeze after 2-3 seconds. I replaced the Discs through Best Buy about EIGHT times and one time directly from Lionsgate. I eventually found Discs that would play but only 50% of the time. I also had the 1 1 000:00 loading freeze also. I eventually gave up...as I got these discs for less than $2 with Best Buy reward zone points.

I don't have BD Live compatibality on my Samsung HT-BD2T, so that explains why these discs load only 50% of the time. My Blu-ray player has no Java/BD Live support so it just gets confused and just keeps loading/processing the data.

I'm using a PS3, it's the only discs in my entire collection(80+ blurays) that wont play. It's like the PS3 doesn't even recognize the disc. I insert it, I get the small bubble on the upper right side of the screen, and then nothing. It won't even display that a disc is inserted. It does this with all three discs.

I know it's very weird and highly unlikely that I'd get three defective discs. :(

I watched Mad Men S2 through Netflix. The first two discs played fine. The third disc locked up during the second episode on the disc. I got a replacement from Netflix, and it locked up at exactly the same place. This happened on both my PS3 and a stand alone Sony Blu-ray player.

You could chapter forward and then use reverse to get to a certain point, but there were still two or three minutes of the episode that absolutely would not play. I ended up watching those two or three minutes online and went back to the BD to finish the episode and series.

The replacement discs behaved exactly the same way, but the new Oppo BD player plays them perfectly. Obviously it's a compatibility problem with the Samsung.
