I have a dishnetwork box vip622 and just got my vizio vp505xvt (1080p) from costco, display unit $950, three year warranty with amex purchase.

I am a complete novice. I have seen where I need to have my dish network box set to a certain setting so that the HQV chip can do its magic. What is that setting, 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i? Which of these should I have the dishnetwork box set to. If it makes a difference, I watch only HDTV channels.

Also, any other dish network settings I should know about would be greatly appreciated.

I have an HDMI cable running from the dish network box to the vizio tv in the living room.

Also, a different question. I have my 42 inch samsung 4254 plamsa (720p) in the bedroom, running of the coaxial cable from the wall through the surge protector. The dish network box model is the VIP622. Is there anyway to get a better picture for the bedroom samsung? The samsung in the bedroom looks like crap compared to the vizio. I can still tell a difference between the sd and hd chanels on the samsung, but the hd doesn't look aanywhere close to the quality of the vizio. Before I moved the samsung into the bedroom and had it hooked up via the hmdi cable in the living room, the picture was awesome. Also, the dishnetwork remote can't fix the size of the picture on the samsung like it could do when it was in the living room, it only lets me choose letterbox or normal now, before in the living room I have several options. I am not sure how to get this straightened out. I am a moron.

Will I have to get anothe dish network box for the bedroom in order to improve quality? Can I run a separte line through the wall from the dishnetwork box to the samsung in the bedroom, they are only separated by the wall.

Bottom lineI want the best quality hd picture for both the vizion on the living room and the samsung inthe bedroom. Any suggestions on settings for the TV or the dishnetwork box or any connections recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The output of the 622 for the 2nd TV is an SD output. So if you want HD in the bedroom you need a 2nd box. I have a 622 in my family room and a 211 in the bedroom. I do feed the 2nd output of the 622 to the SD TV in the guest room.

You should set your 622 to output 1080i, since that is the closest to your Vizio's native resolution (1080p).

All the outputs on the back of the 622 are active all the time. This gives you the option of feeding your second TV from the TV-1 component video(R-G-B) & L-R audio jacks. If you do this, you have to watch the same program on both TVs, however. The TV-2 UHF remote can be set up to control TV-1 from the other room. If you're interested in doing this, we can go into more detail on setting up the remote.

Another option is running TV-2's composite video (yellow jack) and L-R audio through the wall to the Samsung. This would probably improve the picture marginally, and would almost certainly improve the sound, which is usually noisy via RF.

Hope this helps.
